The dreaded 'L' word!
Rabical-9120 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Things are not going well for Rab. Mary has kicked him out as she believes that Rab has lost interest in their marriage due to his inability to tell her that he loves her so he has been forced to move in with his mother. Burney is gone too, having been forced to live in a detention centre. Moving in with Mary is Gash and Burney's cousin Screech ( played by David McKay, who had earlier appeared in the series two episode 'That's Entertainment' as Bimbo McGurn ), as well as Joe, a big-headed womanizer whom Mary has taken in as a lodger.

Rab tries to overcome his problems by going to a singles club where he meets Eva, a blowsy divorcee, however her overbearingness scares him off. To worsen things, the D. W. P pay a visit to Rab's mother's house, who have learnt that she has not declared him and threaten to cut her benefits if Rab does not move out of her house...

Series four is one of the weakest in the run, for a number of reasons. For one, Eric Cullen was forced to leave the show following ill health brought on by allegations of him being found in possession of child pornography. Burney was a popular character and to let him be quietly forgotten would have been a crime, so Pattison made sure to explain his absence. Sadly, he saw fit to replace him. Despite David McKay's very best efforts, Screech was nothing more than a run of the mill replacement and after two further series was axed.

Anna Welsh, who plays Mrs. Nesbitt, was the nosy neighbour in the 'Cracker' episode 'Men Should Weep'. Gilbert Martin's Joe made two further 'Nesbitt' appearances, first in the following episode 'Mother' and then later in the series seven episode 'Duel'. Terry Neason, who played Eva, was heavily involved in Wildcat Productions ( along with the likes of David McNiven and Dave Anderson ).

Funniest bit - upon meeting Joe, Ella starts to breathe and perspire heavily. Concerned, Mary asks if she can get her anything. ''How about a dry pair of knickers!'', says Ella breathlessly!
