The Phone

With little kids having the latest smartphones these days. It is hard to believe that in the late 1960s. Most households did not have a phone at home. We only got one at our house in the early 1970s.

If you wanted to make a phone call. You went to a public call box or went to a neighbour's house who had a phone. Then left a few pence behind.

Alf thinks he has come into some money when his horse comes in at the races. Only Mike could not place a bet. Someone was hogging the phone box.

Mike tells Alf this would not had happened if he had his own phone. He would also save money. The home phone would be cheaper than going to the call box.

Now with his own phone. Alf finds that you can easily place a bet with the bookies over the phone. You can also change you mind easily as well.

Then there is also a matter of being pestered by neighbours such as Min who want to use the phone.

This was a missing episode that was restored with an off air recording. The quality is not as good. I did like how Alf got annoyed as he could not hear the television as Min was talking on the phone.
