"The stage settings by Roger Harth ;the costumes by Donald Cardwell " ;every French knows these famous credits which were heard when the curtain fell at the end of every play of the beloved "Au Théâtre Ce Soir" series.

"Chérie Noire " is the "number nine " of the collection;its title "Chérie Noire" (=black dearest),is a pun, sounding a little like "Série Noire " (=crime thriller).

A failed writer is despised by his mistress Solange (Marthe Mercadier);they hire a new maid ,Chérie Hoana ,a black student in anthropology coming from the islands in the sun to study.....the Caucasian race's behavior !In the sixties, the subject reversed the "usual" "normal" situation and actually the young intellectual has something to teach this blase writer and his lover : wisdom, poetry, dream, in a nutshell, the Joie De Vivre .

Marpessa Dawn ,who was the star of "Orfeo Negro",shines in the part of Chérie .
