Effective four-hander
Leofwine_draca6 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
A direct follow-on from the previous episode, this one's another four-hander between Roger, Burke, Victoria and David. Burke's shifting allegiances remain engaging while David is a mysterious presence. Victoria is the young innocent caught in the middle and Roger the bolshy patriarch. The acting is uniformly strong here and things seem to finally climax, perhaps clearing the air for future plot developments.

More lies to hide lies.

Warning: Spoilers
Burke's claim that he found the bleeder valve on the road is questioned by Roger, certain that these lies are being made up for a purpose Burke hasn't yet revealed. It's Roger's chance to question Victoria, then Burke, and an opportunity for Burke and David to get further aquatinted over memories of David's mother. It is this point where the location of David's mother is, and there's suspicions over Burke's previous relationship with her. It's a cat and mouse game where various players in this game take turns being the cat.

Roger is obviously deeply disturbed by the fact that his own son might have been the one to try to kill him, and Burke takes that opportunity to warn Victoria of possible danger concerning David. It becomes obvious that Burke is delighting in the Collins family's drama, a revenge even he couldn't have put into motion. it's in watching this episode that I realize how Edgar Allan Poe likes the story is with Roger obviously a Vincent Price like character, and then makes watching this all unfold even more of a delight.

"Stay Away from Open Windows"

Bringing David back to Collinwood, Burke produces the missing "bleeder valve" which caused Roger's car to crash. Burke claims he picked up David wandering in Collinsport, and they found the auto part on the road where the accident occurred. However, Vicki identifies the "bleeder valve" is the one she found in David's drawer. Burke's lie unravels after Carolyn calls to tell Roger she saw Burke and David leave his hotel room earlier. However, the bouncing "bleeder valve" story is not exactly resolved, yet. Later, Burke has a warning for Vicki...

This episode culminates the growing friendship between Burke and David. They've discussed Burke's past with Roger and David's mother. Burke reveals his poor background, which included being severely beaten by his father. Ten years earlier he began working for the Collins family, quickly becoming Roger's pal and drinking buddy. Laura moved to Collinsport, dated Burke, then switched to Roger. David shows Burke a picture of his mother, and Burke tells David the three were close. At this point, missing mother Laura Collins is "in the hospital..."
