Our First Look At 'Sergeant Hogan'
ccthemovieman-19 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Still very new to the camp, Fort Baxter, Bilko (Phil Silvers) is already nursing sore feet as he isn't used to all the walking. He doesn't have a jeep for transportation and he desperately wants something. No more walking for him.

He gets a memo in which he can get a jeep if he volunteers for a position. Worried that a peer might also apply and get the job, he sweet-talks and cons the other guys out of applying. Then, he hears of a last-minute application, someone named "Sgt. Hogan," whom he's unfamiliar with. So, he throws a party, arranges a date (with ("Mildred The Barracuda") for Hogan so he get on his good side....but - lo and behold - Hogan turns out to be a woman and...what a woman!

On the outside, she (Elizabeth Frazier) appears wholesome, beautiful, built, sweet and naive. She should be a soft touch for the fast-talking Bilko but he's in for a shock. In the last six minutes of the show, he goes all out with "The Bilko Blitz" but this woman is more than equal to the task, knowing what Ernie is all about and one step ahead of him. This is a great episode, one of the classics in this series.

More "Bilko" Scheming
StrictlyConfidential7 January 2021
In order for you to get any real entertainment value out of watching this episode of TV's "The Phil Silvers Show" you have gotta be willing to cut it some serious slack.

Anyway - As the story goes - Sgt. Bilko volunteers for a better job on the base - and the personal jeep that comes with it. Only he'll have to compete with female Sgt. Joan Hogan.

Wait till you see what happens when Bilko goes into his shtick of conniving and deception.

Screaming and Yelling is NOT Funny!
angelsunchained15 October 2017
Honestly, when I saw this show in reruns as a kid, I thought it was funny as can be. However, after seeing it again today, I thought is wasn't funny at all and got a headache from all the yelling and screaming that was going on. The jokes were juvenile at best. Calling a guy a tomato face and repeating it over and over is not funny. Big disappointment for me because I like Phil Silvers. If you like screaming and yelling this is for you; I'll pass, thank you.
