One of the better episodes for season three. In Search of Jack the Ripper is a historical mystery episode. There is an in depth historical narrations of what east side of London was like in Jack the Ripper times. Reenactments of the murders and the investigations give insight of the dark events. Experts explains the rambling, letters of the serial killer. Quirks in the investigation could shed light to who Jack the Ripper was. Conspiracy theorist explain possible suspects. Jack the Ripper could of lead to the fall of the royal family was theorized! A historical mystery which In Search of tries to Answer. There is evidence of Royal cover up, which makes for a perplexing episode. Eight out of ten stars. Worth watching!

Season 3 Episode 5

In Search Of... "Jack the Ripper" (1978) The fifth episode in the third season takes a look at the legendary Jack the Ripper. The episode is a pretty good documentary about the events including well-detailed descriptions of the first and last murders contributed to the killer. This episode is certainly highly entertaining and will certainly appeal to fans of the series as well as those interested in Jack the Ripper. I really liked that the episode took a closer look at the times in London and why it might have been possible that a mysterious and secret club helped keep the secret of the killer quiet. There's also a conspiracy theory centered around the government. This is certainly a highly entertaining episode with some fun interviews.

Effectively atmospheric and grim episode focuses on the infamous series of murders in the Whitechapel section of London, England in 1888, where at least five women were brutally murdered with a knife by a mysterious assailant who was never arrested, though there were many theories as to his identity, and reasons for committing such a group of bloody killings. Could the killer have been a doctor? politician? royalty? or someone else altogether? We may never know for certain... Nicely eerie direction and music, with interesting interviews from both historical and crime scholars combine to make this a most memorable episode indeed.

Warning: Spoilers
I watched this episode when I was ten years old and it led to a lifelong interest in true crime and I have always been a Jack The Ripper buff. There have been all kinds of theories about who jack was and they range from the plausible to the absurd. This is technically an excellent episode of In Search Of.... in every aspect from Nimoy's masterful narration, to the spooky music to the fact that they do a wonderful job recreating what the wretched East End of London was like in 1888. However, the theory advanced that Queen Victoria's grandson "Prince Eddie" was Jack The Ripper is one of the more ridiculous.
