Flora and Cissie are planning on a trip into town, but the thoughtless battle-axe has forgotten poor Cissie who's been up in her room for hours getting ready. Shops are limited as we learn that Flora's been banned from a string of shops including Boots. She returns to Paradise Lodge and faces a weak retaliation from Cissie, but tells of her distress at the Cinema, where a man has sat next to her and made improper advances, but she's battered him with her umbrella, he turns out to be the Manager, and more surprisingly the cheeky Flora has been to see Confessions of a Window cleaner. Once relaxed, she shows everyone her gorgeous purchase, a new White elephant from Peabody's Department Store, she explains how she's beaten them down on the price, and how she's wiped out half a dinner service and squashed a fixture full of china. Flora realises she hasn't paid and hatches a plan, Operation White Elephant is put into practice, with the aim of returning the Elephant. The four ladies are donned in Miss Milton's sheets and curtains, naturally Cissie throws a spanner in the works.
I applaud this episode for being the first that takes the Ladies out of Paradise Lodge, Mildred and Dolly are getting more screen time, and Miss Milton is becoming more and more like Margaret Thatcher, the show is changing, getting a bit more daring, and a bit more grown up. It's definitely different, but funny.
