Yes, in the early Seventies there were a lot of power cuts. But before anyone gets too smug, it should be pointed out that, back in the day, people were not as addicted to electricity as they are now. I went to my auntie's house when there was a power cut and she was not bothered. She grew up with gas and coal fires. She, along with many others, remembered World War 2. A few power cuts was nothing compared to the mass bombings of town and cities.
'Cyril' ( Stephen Lewis ) and sister 'Dorothy' ( Pat Coombs ) have stocked up their freezer when a power cut renders the food totally uneatable. Cyril and Dorothy head for the cafe and order a meal without knowing what it is. They soon find out. Sheep's eyeballs! Ugh! Funnlly enough, a similar scene appeared in 1984's 'Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom'. Was Steven Spielberg a fan of 'Don't Drink The Water'? I think we should be told.
Funniest moment - Dorothy falls ill and Cyril sends for a doctor. Dorothy is scared he might turn out to be a foreigner. His brother points out that, in England, foreign doctors are now the norm. Sure enough, they get one, played by Ricardo Montez a.k.a. 'Juan' of 'Mind Your Language'. He thinks Dorothy is pregnant, not suffering from stomach trouble.
