Victoria Woodhull runs for President in 1872!
info-135587 July 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Tonight's episode, Wuhl talks about Victoria Woodhull and her running with black reformer Frederick Douglass. The truth is Woodhull nominated Douglass without his consent. He was actually in Paris at the time she nominated him.

There is an excellent documentary on Victoria Woodhull; America's Victoria, Remembering Victoria Woodhull. It's aired on PBS and was just recently released via DVD on Amazon.

Review If you spliced the genes of Hillary Clinton, Madonna, Heidi Fleiss and Margaret Thatcher, you might have someone like Victoria Woodhull." - --Steve Murray, Atlanta Journal & Constitution

Product Description Previously featured on PBS Television and Canadian Broadcasts. VICTORIA WOODHULL became the first woman to campaign for US President in 1872. AMERICA'S VICTORIA is a wonderful chronicle of the life of one of the most important and unrecognized women in US history. Although she was a radical suffragist, she refused to restrict her Presidential campaign to the issue of women's suffrage. Instead, she advocated a single sexual standard for men and women, legalization of prostitution and reform of marriage. AMERICA'S VICTORIA combines rare archival images, Woodhull's own words (ready by KATE CAPSHAW), and illuminating interviews with contemporary feminist, GLORIA STEINEM to present a fascinating portrait of this remarkably brave woman.

Warning: Spoilers
"Assume the Position 201 with Mr. Wuhl" is a half hour short film from 2007, so this one has its 10th anniversary this year. It was written and directed by Robert Wuhl and of course he also stars in this one here again. I must say I was not too impressed by the first, but compared to this one here, it was really far superior and this one here was really only packed with liberal propaganda, cheap shots against President's wives, a touch of badly-executed feminism and extremely random movie references that cannot even entertain film nerds. So yeah this was majorly disappointing and it was a wise choice that no further sequels were produced here as the quality had declined from forgettable to bad between installments 1 and 2. At least this time we are not getting any cheap shots against Ben Affleck. But this is really the only positive thing I can say about this one here. Nothing else. Oh yeah, the way they rushed in all these known faces to be able to include them in the cast list was cringeworthy at best and as a great Louis CK fan I was genuinely disappointed. No doubt Wuhl has great talent in selling himself to audiences, but with material like this not even he can make it work or hide all the flaws in here. It's very much mainstream trash and the Deal or no Deal part was the perfect example. Highly not recommended.
