The hotel guests are puzzled to find a lavish buffet in the dining room. Ralph assures them it is theirs, so they tuck in with relish. It turns out, however, to be laid on for the Mayor! With their holiday in Spain nearing its end, Ralph and Brian dine out one final time. Ralph urges his friend to make a symbolic gesture by burning his collection of maps and brochures. Brian does so, only to learn that he has unwittingly burned his passport. Ralph asks courier 'Sue' ( Jill Kerman ) for advice, but then tries to take credit for it. She is livid, and prepares to expose Ralph for the fraud he is...
Five episodes into Seasson 1, and the holiday is over. I wish the writers had kept Ralph and Brian in Spain, as this and the preceding four editions have been absolutely top-notch in terms of writing and acting. Gambon is on fine form here; when Brian loses his passport he becomes terribly upset and you almost want to give him a hug. Also good is Kerman. She is all set to denounce Ralph, but is so touched by Brian's statement that 'this is the best holiday I have ever had' she decides not to do so.
Funniest moment - back at Heathrow, Brian gives Ralph his address, but Ralph throws it in a bin, reminding his friend that he is a 'lone wolf'. As soon as Brian has gone, Ralph goes to retrieve it, only to find that the bin has been emptied!
