I loved it, awesome acting by Bryan Cranston.

Warning: Spoilers
A star short because the inhaler, an important part of the crime scene, at the end wasn't found by the police but instead by a man of Jimmy Baxter's.

Judge your self!

An Honorable man who found himself in a trap; as a father his only ill child who's without a mother made an unforgivable mistake; could he seeks justice from the wrong people ? Bryan is genius as always, we will see more good acting from Stuhlbarg too; in the big picture the story isn't new but I'll wait for more thriller in it's events.

The suspense just builds and builds, fantastic.
rmccabe-396956 December 2020
Right from the very first moments, you know something bad is going to happen. The suspense doesn't stop, not even for a second.

This is all helped by amazing cinematography, a fantastic score, and breathtaking acting from the two leads.

I don't know how the rest of the series is going to go, but this first episode is a 10.

It's refreshing to see Bryan Cranston back on screen. What a wonderful pilot!
mehobulls10 December 2020
I thought this was a great fucking pilot episode honestly, dunno why the reviews have been so bad. The show has a very dark and oppressive feel to it that I dig, reminds me of Ozark in that way. And Cranston was great as always, looking forward to seeing what the rest of the season holds.

INTENSE
kirbie-3448114 December 2020
This was hard to watch. Edge of your seat knuckle biting intensity pretty much throughout the entirety of the premier. Things escalated quickly. Honestly, it's probably better that you don't even know what you're getting into until you watch it because you know something terrible is coming , but you aren't 100% sure what & when until it happens- then BANG! It's a train wreck that you can't look away from. It's intense to say the least.

Judge Cranston
Brettyboy00717 January 2021
Your Honor is a 10 episode limited series from Showtime. It stars Bryan Cranston as Michael Desiato who is a judge in New Orleans. This first episode was a great start to the series. The cinematography is breathtaking and the acting is on great especially Bryan Cranston. His son Adam Desiato (played by Hunter Doohan) is also good. The suspense throughout the pilot just builds and builds and doesn't let go. Michael Stuhlbarg and Hope Davis play Jimmy and Gina Baxter. Jimmy is a crime lord operating in New Orleans and both Michael and Jimmy's worlds collide in a tragic way. If you're a fan of Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos, or any other crime dramas check out Your Honor. This is definitely a series I'll be watching till the end.

This is what we wait for in mind blowing cinema
Clairepcb11 December 2020
This is one of the best examples of a truly compelling story that hits the ground running. No wait for long build up or slow rising crescendo which sometimes serves well, but this is done brilliantly. This is like a arrow that hits the target in less than 5 minutes. Outstanding job by Hunter Doohan who plays the son. I dont know how many shots it took to get this opening scene done, but he nails it as a nervous asthmatic that clearly has an underlying story line moving him through the scene. His response to his very large catastrophe is haunting, harrowing and you can literally feel your heart hurting for what you know is coming for him. He literally seems to have no options from the start. You know right out the gate that there is a deeper story line at play adding an immediate complexity. Bryan Cranston, is well Bryan Cranston as he always is brilliant, intense and captivating. This is a show I have been waiting for and havent not been as excited about since The Killing, The Bridge or Ozark but it gets there much faster!

Part One
Prismark104 March 2021
The British writer Peter Moffat has a long standing interest in writing about lawyers and the criminal justice system.

In Your Honor, he examines just how far a honourable judge will go to betray his faith in the justice system to protect his son.

You know Michael Desiato (Bryan Cranston) is a decent judge when he takes down a lying cop who is giving false evidence.

His son Adam is a precocious young man. While going to pay respects to his late mother. Adam runs over another young man called Rocco on a motorbike and he then flees the accident scene.

Rocco is badly injured and dies an agonising death.

Turning to his father for help. Michael arranges to turn Adam in to the police. Until he discovers that Rocco's father is Jimmy Baxter (Michael Stuhlbarg.) A local gangster.

Realising that Adam not only faces legal reprisals but revenge by gangsters. The judge crosses the line and starts to get rid of the evidence.

An intriguing story and a good opening episode but not something that blew me away.

The cross examination by the Judge did not look realistic. It looks laughable that even in 21st century America. A white judge would expose a white cop as a liar to protect a black family.

It seem the only reason the defence lawyer was there was for the mention of prostate cancer.

Rocco's post accident scene was strong stuff. You can imagine just what Jimmy Baxter would do when he got hold of the culprit.

The series is really going to be about just how much the judge and Adam can stay ahead from the cops and the gangsters.

Part One
bobcobb3017 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Bryan Cranston, the team behind The Good Wife/Fight, this show should be set up to be perfect.

But it just isn't. There's just too many similar shows right now and while this is intense and gives you a lot in the premiere, I hope it gets better. There's potential, but it is not quite there yet.

Was this a twilight zone episode?
ryanmrobertson096 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Look, I'm enjoying this series but for an accident to occur in a decently populated city and for no one to come out or anything for 10+ minutes in the middle of the day is soooo unrealistic. You have to suspend a lot of belief to think not a soul would be around during that time and considering the whole premise is based on almost no one knowing, it seems very convenient.

Cranston doesn't disappoint
fastlane-006653 March 2021
I was gripped from minute one. So touched by the love and support the judge showed his son. Well filmed and all put together, slowly but surely this will all come to a head, for sure. Enjoying, and relishing, every minute of it.

Gripping with distraction
dave-7768824 December 2020
Cranston is superb, great to see him in a new role. The story line is gripping start to finish, you just don't know what comes next. However the streets in this big city have zero traffic. The only vehicles seen are part of the story. Combined with the dark theme it feels a lot like the Walking Dead set.

not a fan of how it stared

Warning: Spoilers
So the judge's son gets in an accident because he is stupid to try and reach for his inhaler, which is under the passenger seat while he is driving, he should have pulled over, and when he does hit someone he gets out of the car and doesn't reach for his inhaler even though he was in respritory distress still, come on.

Shades of the Punisher
Hillius25 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
By now, I am more than willing to give just about anything the great Bryan Cranston is in a watch and Your Honor seems to be off to a fine start. I felt reminded throughout Part One of the film The Punisher as both contain a gangster son death and the Baxter family reminded me in many ways of the Saints.

Cranston plays a rather affable judge who runs a more relaxed courtroom who seems truly interested in delivering proper justice in the right ways. Meanwhile his son Adam, goes to visit his mother's grave on the anniversary of her death, but runs into some gang trouble and tries to flee while having an acute asthma attack. One would think that if someone had a condition that severe, you wouldn't let your lifesaving medication out of your sight, but no.

Distracted while grappling for his meds he hits the son of the most vicious gangster in New Orleans who was out joyriding on his new motorbike he just got for his birthday. The accident proves fatal, and is difficult viewing, especially given the bizarre behavior by Adam who tries to assist, but eventually flees the scene.

Later we see Adam explain what happened to his father who wants to turn him in until he learns who was actually killed. Terrified of the Baxter family he chooses instead to protect his son and tries to hide evidence that he knows about. It is always the evidence you don't know about that gets you caught the fastest.

Overall pretty solid drama with a great cast. 8/10.

Great suspense opener.
kelboy1023 January 2023
Can't really start a series much better than this, shades of breaking bad, hopefully it can continue in such form. Really well acted first episode displaying anxiety and it establishes the characters. The main focus is on the accident and how a judge is able to bend the rules when it concerns one of his loved ones with regards to doing what is right. Leaving questions over what one would do in a state of panick. Protecting his son becomes the only objective from a crime boss who will believe no such innocence will exist. Very well shot from a cinematic perspective with great direction too. Flying on all cylinders for an opener can't wait to see where this leads.

An emotional start
venkisundar26 December 2023
I am a huge fan of Brian Cranston. He has been his usual best in this S1: E1. The collision of two different scenarios, one mourning a loss and the other celebrating an early birthday gift.. two extreme conditions of emotions.. collides. The plot begins there with tremendous acting by everyone in the cast.

I decided to binge watch season 1 before I began watching E1. With the Emotional, suspenseful start I guess I made the inevitable right decision to binge. I'm loving this.. With Cranston he carries the scenes himself and I am seeing that already in E1. Great Actor!! Less Celebrated in my opinion.

Sloppy product
lochlemonde23 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So I'm supposed to believe there's a huge car motorcycle accident in New Orleans in broad daylight and not a single person is around or comes out of their home? Then in however long it took to draw this painful scene out, not one car drives by during this time? Then, at the end of the episode, in the middle of the night, a compatriot of the organized crime boss just happens to stumble upon an inhaler in the middle of the street that the police department overlooked during the middle of the day at a crime scene? K.

Where is everybody?
bmc515124 December 2022
I wanted to like this show. I really did. Yeah there's some of the usual left-wing anti-cop politics, but I could get past that if the story is good enough. The great Bryan Cranston, of course, could make almost any show watchable. The underrated Michael Stuhlberg is a terrific piece of casting as a mob boss. But, as some other reviewers have mentioned, there's a gigantic hole in the story that I simply cannot get past, that makes this show unwatchable, and that is...

Where the heck was everybody when the accident happened? There was not another soul on the roads - not ONE - for the entirety of the accident and its aftermath. Did nobody in those houses see or hear the accident? It makes absolutely no sense, and - for me, at least - makes the rest of the show unwatchable. A shame, really, as it had potential.

Tragicomic accident
poinla376 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
There was supposed to be some tension and tragedy during the accident, but Adam"s behaviour was so erratic and irrational that it made it funny. First, why go to that neighborhood where you know you have a good chance of a bad encounter? Second, when feeling threatened, instead of running away in your car, you just drive around in circle? Come on.... Then, if your inhaler, is so important for you, just keep it in your pocket. And the motocycle came at full speed from a straight line, Adam would have been able to see it coming, doesn't make any sense. Also, don't put your fingers in a mouth full of blood, WTF??? And call 911!!

This scene was sooooo bad! The circumstances leading to the accident are just so unreal and Adam's reaction (or the acting?) was unbelievable. It just ruined the rest of the episode...

Slow

Hope the rest of the series isn't as slow as this. For a first episode everything was in slow motion with artistic camera work.

Not realistic
rjb-383222 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The son of the Judge is a nervous wreck before and after the accident- then calm later that night. People don't change like that. No one around to see the wreck or hear it. Ok maybe in some parts of the ghetto- not likely though. Should have filmed in a more rural setting to make it believable. Anyway- I'll buy it as I have seen parts of the ghetto that are abandoned- although there is usually traffic, after all- there was 3 cars even in this scene. Crime boss surely will want revenge. That part is believable. Not hard to believe that a siting judge would protect his - (well) -family and himself. Another thing- not many white judges would rebuke a white cop over a black defendant in open court. Did I say "not many" or "not any"? Cops miss an enhaler at crime scene but mob find's it? Ok- maybe- but that's another stretch. Even that it was left there is pretty much a stretch. More likely to find car parts or auto paint that would be identifiable. Anyway- gave it a 5 because of good acting- bad story writing though. Hope it gets better.
