Great Concept bad hosting hope it gets better
gti9924 June 2019
I like the show , but Celine and Fabien seem to be a bit awkward on camera i don't know if its because they are reading the script or that's just them and we don't need to see you prep for dives every show unless you're telling us about some new gadget your using.

I was already interested because I group up in the 70's with Jacques.

They tell some interesting stories about events I hadn't heard before, instead of the same old repeats. But every now and then the directors attempt at "drama" before a commercial break is...mildly annoying.

Could be great but needs help
wherewriteme1 July 2019
Why is every dive a life of death experience? Why does the dive master rattle on all the time about dive safety? Why is it life or death every time the have to surface? You have a quarter of a tank of air GET TO THE SURFACE RIGHT NOW!! Warning danger will Robinson. Well I think they are ok cause you can see the bottom of the boat, I think you can do that without extra air! Why are they surprised every time they enter a room when the camera man is already there? Don't get me wrong this show is good, but it could be great if they just stopped whats listed above. The subject matter is very interesting. and the hosts a good, but arrrgh the guy who runs the dives need to shut up!

For a show about the ocean, it's pretty dry.
tigerpaws-362322 July 2019
Nothing ever actually happens in any of the episodes. There's so much hype and drama and mystery leading up through the whole episode, and then....nothing. Maybe if they actually found something cool I'd be more into it, but it always the same thing. They talk about rumors and things people have claimed they've seen, and that's about it. Actual dive time is pretty small and they never see anything cool.

I enjoyed the show but...
rageinblack25 May 2020
I enjoyed the show, and I think we need more of shows researching various anomalies around the world and especially underwater. This documentary mini-series is definitely more about the journey than the destination, and I still had a good time watching it.

The things I liked about show:

  • The stories of legends and mysteries behind each episode are very intriguing
  • I liked the underwater footage
  • The mysterious vibe of the stories combined with spooky scenarios is a great formula for the show, so it's entertaining.
  • I also enjoyed the various routes the show took, such as collecting further evidence, interviewing eyewitnesses or people who knows about the legends in an attept to come closer to solve the mysteries.

The things I didn't like about the show:

  • The show seems more oriented towards surviving every minute under water than it is on exploration alone. There is always mortal danger in every step they do. So usually as soon as they get to the bottom of the sea and look around a bit they already have to resurface.
  • The episodes feel scripted. The music sometimes it too over the top to accentuate the drama, the dialogues, the camera positions most of the time don't feel natural or genune at all, also there to cause more drama. In the end it feels more like a movie than an actual documentary.
  • The show could have more episodes, there are only 4.
  • Nothing interesting is ever found, except in the very last episode.

Now, I know that these episodes are quite demanding to make, very budget-consuming and not to mention pretty dangerous, as well. Another good thing I have to mention is that all 4 episodes of the show are available to watch for free on Legends of the deep official facebook page, even if not in the best video quality :)

Confused
tiffgetsjunk15 July 2019
Did these two get corporate funding just because of their grandads name to fund their pleasure dives? I'm confused here. What 'legends' am I supposed to be taking away from watching this on the science channel? That with the right last name, you too can dive for free?!

More drama history.
dufjon18 June 2019
No history. Just more bogus drama. Oh I'm running out of air. Oh it's just a rock and so on. Even worse than civil war gold and the WWII treasure show.

Yet another decent concept ruined with fake drama
codydwyer-3023424 June 2019
Please please please please stop pretending every mundane event is some life threatening white knuckle moment. I was actually interested in the content but the show became absolutely insufferable thanks to the dishonest, overplayed, fake as plastic, over-inflated garbage "drama" that did nothing but turn the show into 90% faked fluff and 10% actual content.

Amazing diving
bmdavison24 June 2019
You wouldn't believe the underwater footage in this show, it's like watching Planet Earth, but mixed with a mystery.

Not a bad idea
will5420 June 2019
I like the concept of the show, but I don't find Celine or Fabien to be very likeable. I'm also already tired of seeing them in the process of suiting up for every dive. I would rather see more underwater footage than them getting their gear together.

1 star is too many

Uninteresting show about nothing, lot's of taking, lot's of speculation and that's it. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Waste of time. Pointless. The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau was a great documentary, his grandchildren just use his name and fame to produce nothing of substance. Avoid!

The Most Fake Annoying Show
solarcat-2443828 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I tried watching this show, and i tried liking it but every single episode is predictable. They dont find anything. Nothing. They go, oh thats gotta be that missing ship! later after, ah its nothing, or, its too dangerous, and they find out there is nothing.

Every episode when they say they got something, i say to the TV, you dont have anything. What do they find? Nothing.

Then they find another clue to finding the missing ship, oh this got to be it! Commercials. Then when the show is back, its nothing.

The entire show is about no discovery, just fake just like Mountain Men, those stupid redneck hillbillies where they find monsters, and find out there is nothing.

The entire show is fake. Every discovery they find that they think they have a hunch or something that can prove something, they say they got nothing.

So its boring, its written by a Producer, and its all fake.

This show is a waste of time, i dont know why anyone would rate this a 9. This show is as bad as that Alien show where they try to find clues on ground if there are hidden UFOs. Same thing, they find nothing.

I use this word "nothing" a lot because that is exactly what they say in their shows when they fail to find anything. "We got nothing" or "We didnt find anything" from Celine.

The only thing good on the Science Channel is Planets, and Astronomy. Those are real. I love documentaries but not fake ones.

Dont waste your time on these shows where they sucker you to gain ratings.

Watch Unexplained Files or Paranormal Caught on Camera. Those are real clips by people who recorded situations happening. Ghosts, and UFOs but real footage.

Be on a show BSing to people and get paid a ton of money? I can do that. Oh there it is! Later, oh it was just Coral. Oh there is the mythical beast! Oh its only an Ore Fish. Heres some commercials, let me give you some suspense. Theres the chain to the sunken ship! You come back 5 mins of suffering, oh its only attached to the coral. Its just a huge chunk of coral.

*Face palms*

Stupid Show
sw-3046513 April 2021
Sorry I couldn't give it no star. Nothing ever happens. The young Cousteaus self-promotion using their father's great accomplishments. Each episode could have been done in 5 mins. Flat. Went under water and found nothing. The end.

All the markings of a good programme.......but.....
neilakester28 May 2021
As a marine biologist, professional diver and marine archaeologist I was thrilled to see that the grandchildren of the great innovator were doing this. The documentaries promise much more than what is delivered. The dive sites look interesting and the technology used is great but could be used with far better results. A more methodical scientific approach is needed for results to be obtained. I felt by the end of each episode that I was left with more questions than answers.

Underwater mysteries!
markkoops-7994324 June 2019
I feel we have explored every mystery above ground so great to be tackling mysteries below the surface and who better to do it than the legendary Cousteaus. Small complaint - would like to see more on latest technology though and in the water hence why a 9 from me!

drama mystery and a dusting of science
erictburton24 June 2019
Solid show with some fantastic underwater footage. Love the onscreen graphics. Overall tone is more edge of your seat suspense than Nova or PBS which is a good thing. Wish it were more than 4 episodes so we could really see the show develop.

Fun show for the family
gdylanharris24 June 2019
Really fun show, the ocean has been so little explored that there's always something new to discover, and no better people to do it with then the Cousteau family!

Cousteau's make an impressive splash on their return to TV
michael-8737224 June 2019
Legends of the Deep succeeds on every front and excels with its ability to make the ocean feel exciting and new. Fabien and Celine are refreshingly real. In an age where television feels hyper-manufactured - this third generation of Cousteau's emulates and achieves the sincerity and humanity that their late grandfather Jacques brought to the screen.

What I enjoyed most about the program is how beautifully it marries technology, history, and mystery. Unlike most of entertainment today - their unsolved mysteries are given a logical hypothesis rooted in science. You're left with a sense of satisfaction and a feeling that you too were part of the journey. Looking forward to more episodes soon.

leonlavallin24 June 2019
Happened to flick over and see this show - and glad I did!, really incite full, amazing cinema photography! The underwater imagery is breathtaking.

Going to set an episode series link on my DVR and make sure I go back to the episode/s I missed already?

Great details and information on a subject which fascinated me!

Very fun show with great cast!
ryanphall24 June 2019
As a huge fan of the Bermuda Triangle, and of all things ocean-related, the first episode of this fantastic series got me hooked right away and have enjoyed the rest of the episodes! The Costeau duo and all the kickass tech they use makes for an exciting, relevant and overall super-fun show!
