Great, dark storyline, horrible camera work.

Alex is investigating the death and mutilation of several children, whilst struggling with her parenting duties.

I really enjoyed the storyline, it's well paced, dramatic, and very twisted. Some of the content is unsettling to say the least.

Some very unsettling moments, the opening sequences are harrowing, but also what happened to both Paula and Kevin, uncomfortable.

I took some paracetamol whilst watching this, thinking I was coming down with a migraine.... I wasn't it was the horrible camera work and production, why on Earth did they chose to use whatever camera they did, the effect doesn't work, it just distracts.

Patrick O'Kane is the standout as Peter Vancliff, from that opening scene, to the interview and standoff with Alex.

Loved the story, didn't like the visuals, overall though I still rated it.

8/10.

Hard on the eyes.

The dramatic tone with partial colour used throughout the episode is really hard to watch and it detracts from the storyline which is a shame as it's a cracking episode. Well worth watching if you don't mind the poor resolution mainly black and white filming.

I have only recently gotten into Wire In The Blood and have enjoyed every episode so far, it's great to see younger versions of today's popular actors and trying to place the shows that they appear in today and in the past.

I gave the episode an 8 because of the filming methods used as it did detract from the brilliant story line. Maybe watching it on a cold and dark Halloween night would be advantageous.

Weird filming technique
JNBecks0075 February 2023
The whole episode looks like fuzzy black and white with an occasional pop of blue or red.

I like film noir, but this is fuzzy, grainy, and it almost looks pixelated at certain points in the story.

Like the previous review, I too thought some was wrong with my TV's settings. It's so dark, even in the light of day it's too dark to see some scenes. That's kind of annoying.

Since I couldn't see everything happening, I kept having to rewind scenes to understand what was going on. This show is so detailed and dense in information, the lack of clarity in the visuals made it particularly difficult to follow. It's a bummer, because I felt like this was a pretty important episode.

Let down by poor visuals

I've enjoyed revisiting Wire in the Blood recently, and while it is a little dated now, it is still entertaining, and more than little dark in its subject matter.

When I started watching this particular episode, however, I was sure that the cat must have been sitting on the remote control and subsequently messed up the colour settings on my TV; the colour had been all but de-saturated from the picture (an effect often used to depict a flashback, or event in the past) but no, the entire episode seemed to have been filmed in that way. I'm not sure if this was a deliberate decision, or just badly-rendered episode (none of the previous or subsequent episodes looked like this) but it was extremely hard to watch and and very distracting. Shame, as I probably would have enjoyed this episode if it hadn't been filmed on something resembling a Box Brownie.

Boring

A special effect used the whole episode. "Handheld low res camera", made everyone look absurd and the show tiresome for the eyes and brain. Reminded me of Blair Witch Project. I really don't need that. And cheap horror effects. Don't need that either.

The main problem for me with the whole series is the emotional overdoses and this episode combines that with the grainy filming, voodoo stuff and everything all over the place all the time. Some dynamics wouldn't hurt, but the horror parody eliminates every chance off connecting to the story.

And Alex would really need a psychiatrist. But one with control of him/herself, not a psychological problem himself.

Sorry, the worst episode so far.
