...with Fiona leaving, really being a lead. I thought it was going to be bad. But I'm pleasantly surprised. The ensemble cast seems to have a stepped up their game, especially Deb. I've enjoyed the first two episodes.

If they stuck with the "Scamazon" subplot this could have worked, but there was too much nonsense here. Everything with Debbie is just a mess right now and the prison stuff is so boring. No need to bring those characters back.

Shameless has become a cheap sitcom, just without the laugh track. So many scenes going for shallow jokes and quick payoffs. The ironic thing here: it was way funnier the earlier seasons.
Examples: The Liam dress-up-montage (where did he even get the money for all that stuff?), the whole solitary debate, the "I hate myself"-clerk...
The raunchy and dark tones have gone almost completely.
That all being said: it's still above average tv. But seasons 1 to 7 are in my top-10-list of greatest shows ever, so... "above average" is kind of sad. I usually don't watch "above average" shows anymore...

I honestly think the only people giving ratings above 5 work for the show or are in some way connected and then they just all give a thumbs down to the negative reviews so it makes it look like no one agrees with the bad review. If you've been watching Shameless since the pilot then you understand how bad it is and how far removed from the original premise it is now. They are now caricatures of themselves and the storylines are so boring. Lip was a genius and since season 5 the writers have totally forgotten that.. It makes no sense. I have hope with Mickey's comeback that there will at least be 1 character worth watching this season. I truly don't understand these positive reviews..
