Beautiful cinematic poetry!

This film is a gorgeous, sensuous homage to Sapelo Island, its endangered Gullah Geechee culture, and Cornelia Walker Bailey. Bailey was a champion of Gullah Geechee culture who fought to keep alive the community's history and way of life. The nature of their enslavement on an isolated island and coastal plantations created a unique culture with deep African retentions that are visible in the Gullah Geechee people's distinctive crafts, foods, music, and language. Stunning imagery. The screening was at the Plaza Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia.
