The unluckiest playboy in showbiz
Chip_douglas27 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Father and son Kraaykamp portray uncle and nephew Dekker in this likable but not particularly exceptional farce filmed for television. Johnny Kraaykamp Sr plays Adriaan, a flamboyant artist who's been living in France for the last 2 years and unexpectedly comes to visit his nephew Menno, a famous talk-show host (Johnny Kraaykamp Jr, as if you hadn't guessed). Menno is know in the tabloids as Hilversum's most eligible bachelor and infamous playboy. But all is not as it seems: every time Menno gets a woman alone, fate somehow deals the cards against him resulting in him still being a virgin. By now he is terribly afraid of being laughed at when the truth comes out (which of course Adriaan and other characters do indeed).

Rounding out the cast are three women. First on stage is Marja Huynen as nymphomaniac Lieve Meerman, with whom Menno has a date at the start of the play that is ruined when they find his uncle sleeping in his bed. Least but not last is Teddy Schaank as nosy landlady Boersma who keeps popping up when you least expect her with catty comments aimed at Adriaan. And then there is Menno's devoted secretary Carla Winter (Kika Mol) who, as it soon turns out is deeply in love with her employer and a virgin herself to boot. Every character ends up sleeping at Menno's automated bachelor pad, yet no one gets to sleep with one another. Still I bet you can guess who ends up with whom at the end.

The elder Johnny Kraaykamp is the star of the show, with the live audience laughing at every line and expression. Johnny Jr. makes a sympathetic leading man and is good at the more athletic pratfalls that are acquired in a play such as this, especially since every scene takes place in Menno's pad complete with revolving walls, automatic pull out beds and hidden drink cabinets. Teddy Schaank also gets some funny lines, though her part is mostly written to be an obstacle for the two men and as such only serves to pad out the story. As the experienced lover, Marja Huynen soon shifts her attention from Menno to Adriaan (who for some reason starts running in the opposite direction) before the two 'wolves' decided to team up and get the two 'lambs' in the story together. And being one of those lambs, Kika Mol has to do little more than being be a lovely and she is.
