This is a performance of the final part of the 1812 Overture by a symphony orchestra with sequences depicting the life in Moscow and the defeat of Napoleon cut into it. It is in effect an early music video (probably made to appear in an all talking program).
The directors name is Orville Dull and the film is on some levels. Its an odd attempt to do what Disney did with Fantasia ten years later to much better effect. The music isn't bad (how could it be its a great piece of music) its just that the way the sound and image is put together is rather random in a way. Yes I know it goes from praying in a church to celebration, but it still seems flat. Admittedly my eyes are used to todays music videos, but at the same time what was being done in movie musicals at the same time was much more interesting. Ultimately more of interest historically rather than emotionally.
