Hillary has a broken heart!
blanbrn29 October 2021
This episode 8 from season 3 of "FX's" "American Crime Story: "Impeachment" called "Stand by Your Man" is one interesting and entertaining and very revealing episode one of the more powerful one's of the season. Here after testimony in front of Ken Starr as the grand jury hears the words President Clinton has just revealed to the world that his relationship with Monica was to close, even though Bill in his minds feels it was not sexual. And to make matters worse Bill breaks the news to the first lady Hillary, and Mrs. Clinton takes it hard as Hill clearly has an angry broken heart even though she is still standing by her man! Actress Edie Falco still one of the best in the business is believable as Hillary her scenes are tense and powerful with Bill(the good Clive Owen) as she screams and curses the most powerful man in the world over his lust and wrong doing. The acting and cast chemistry is still A plus in this series. Episode 8 was a hard hitting fire spitting episode that sets viewers up for the thrilling final two conclusion episodes.

An episode that makes the previous 7 worth watching...

This concerns the time HRC had her Tammy Wynette moment...

Both Eddie Falco and Clive Owen are outstanding in an episode that explores the essential dynamics of the Hill&Bill relationship ie. Her drive and determination into turning her wayward Bill into a POTUS to remember.

She did that alright!

In this episode Clive Owen rocks Bill with a perfect accent and in some scenes you can actually believe Bill is in the room. It's a nuanced performance and Clive gets it just right.

When you watch one episode every week over many weeks you can get the 'where is all this leading/going' feeling...but this episode makes the lead-up and the previous episodes ALL worth watching...I'm hoping the last two episodes have the same compelling power as Episode 8.

Edie Falco
NYC-Photog12 March 2022
After watching this series I am so disappointed the Edie Falco was cast as Hilary Clinton. Just about all the actors casted looked and acted just their character except her. She looked NOTHING like Hilary Clinton, acted NOTHING like Hilary Clinton, if anything, I was reminded too much of Carmela from Sapranos. The screaming "You cheated on me", that's all I could think of. Also, she looked too clownish at times with wearing too much make-up. I agree, casting Falco was poor casting. What were they thinking?

"I threw my body in front of yours to protect YOU!"

Warning: Spoilers
This episode aired on Hillary's 74th birthday. I hope seeing her character vent at Bill gives her some satisfaction. Whether you support her or not, you have to admire HER loyalty.

This episode gets down to brass tacks on the details of the president's sleazy shenanigans and Ken Starr's silly witch hunt.

Meanwhile, Osama Bin Laden was planning bigger terrorist attacks while we all were engrossed in this ludicrous train wreck.

I sympathize with Monica because she was so young and vulnerable, but I think now that Linda Tripp is dead, she can basically paint herself in a better light than reality. I think it was her idea to keep the dress.

BTW, Tammy Wynette got her apology.

EMMY SHOULD DEFINITELY TAKE NOTICE

POWERFUL. I told y'all. I knew Edie Falco would get her time to shine. EXCELLENT! I swear, this right here will have a ton of Emmy nods. Sarah Paulson, as Linda Tripp; Clive Owen as President Clinton; OMG - Rae Dawn Chong as Clinton's personal secretary Betty Craig are all unrecognizable, which I find quite fascinating because it's not all because of the makeup (it's the ACTING!); and I can't forget Beanie Feldstein as Monica Lewinsky and the incredible Judith Light as Paula Jones' attorney. I mean this ensemble runs deeeeep! It just goes on an on, from the writing to directing to production. Fantastic!

Like it, but a bit Hollywood BS.

Warning: Spoilers
I love the show, I love everything, story is good, but this is clear attempt to make Hillary look like a victum and a survivor, which she is not, she stayed with him because of POWER. She is the mastermind of everything.

Monica Lewinsky and Paula Jones and other women who are actual survivors from this predator are in the dark here. Making her a survivor is a disgrace, if she was one, she should have left him years ago, but she is a power digger.

Hillary helped cover everything up.

Hillary is not the hero here. Respect the women who are, this isn't campaign moment for her, it's a blunt lie.

But besides that i liked this episode, looking forward to the next one.

Episode 8

Warning: Spoilers
I know people loved this performance, but I just didn't buy Edie Falco in this role. Hillary Clinton is a polarizing person and therefore difficult to portray, but this was just not it.

Bad casting
hpcmakeup29 October 2021
Edie Falco is still playing Carmella in a headband just screaming at Bill instead of Tony. She doesn't look or sound like Hillary and is too old. An unknown would have been much better than casting probably one of the most famous tv wives of all time. Sorry but it really ruins the show for me.

Edie Falco (60) plays a 35 (HRC)...mmmkay
jenniferwarnock6 November 2021
Edie Falco is terribly miscast. A good 25 years too old to play a 1997 HRC. Does nothing to sound or act like HRC. Also, why are there no less than 4 creepy scenes where Bill stares off HRC while she sleeps. Creepy!

Stand by Your Man
Prismark1015 February 2022
The episode title is not only a reference of a Tammy Wynette song. It is also hark backs to an interview that Hillary Clinton gave.

Now Hillary has to decide whether to stand by her man. Bill owns up to the Lewinsky affair to her.

Bill also needs to testify in front of the Starr committee. For that he has lined up some weasel words to indicate what does sexual relations means. The idea came from what the lawyers of Paula Jones asked Bill.

In the background of all this is the rise of terrorism activities involving Osama Bin Laden.

That is a reach to suggest that this scandal affected Bill Clinton from pursuing Bin Laden. After all this was a self inflicted wound.

Kenneth Starr comes across as suitably shifty and partisan. He is certainly not independent. I had little time for him before he revealed himself to be a hypocritical oath especially after Trump's presidency.

It does not help that Edie Falco is just too old to play Hillary Clinton of the mid 1990s.
