Mildly entertaining but not fully formed idea
jmbovan-47-16017331 March 2021
The story is standard with some hint of sypernatural possibility around 5 young adults being on the edge moving into adulthood responsibilities. Secrets, spooks, and the weird neighbor nect door. These don't add up well, as too much exposition and backstory take up much of the time to allow for any scares fully develop. Then there are a couple of twists that don't have much weight and tend roward being lame. Sigh. The young actors aren't bad and fairly decent with their depictions. Too bad there wasn't more for them to do.

Just Seemed Short On Content To Me.....

Cabin In The Woods Movie. So immediately you must score it against the best Cabin In The Woods movies, Cabin In The Woods? Or Scary Movie 5? Gotta Admit, the Snoop Dogg Cabin in the Woods bit was great.

This movie....really never grabbed me. It was boring. And when it was over I was asking what was the point of it? 4/10.

Maybe Maybe...

The story line was pretty weak. The initial set up was building up nicely for a serious scary supernatural/slasher movie but went in a strange direction and sort of ended pretty lamely.

Acting was okay. Dialogues could have been better. There were occasions in the movie where both were lacking a bit. I was honestly searching for a 1.5x or 2x button to speed it up.

Having said that, it wasn't a terrible movie. It was somehow weirdly entertaining though it didn't have a solid plot. I would watch it once. I would say it is ideal movie to run in the background while working. You aren't gonna miss much anyway.

Milwaukee's best

Why are the rankings so high? This movie is boring! The phones in a bag thing is played out. No one in real life would do that, especially not kids their age. The characters are 1 dimensional, especially the over the top black character. The movie did its job as background noise as I did other things.

I tried, I really did

Warning: Spoilers
I wanted to like this, I actively tried to like it, but the horrible acting, unlikeable characters and all around boring tone is just too much to overlook. It seems like whoever made this film couldn't decided on a theme, Paranormal horror?, Cabin in the woods trope?, Crazed stranger thriller? Prank gone horribly wrong? It's all of that mashed together, yet still somehow ends up being one of most boring films that I have ever seen. And what was up with the black guys character!?

100% Boring AF

Warning: Spoilers
Absolutely nothing happens in this movie. You'd think with the split personality plot at least one of them could be fully realized, but alas no. It wasn't supernatural, slasher, horror, or suspense.

The best way to describe it would be this. You know how in a horror movie you yell at the characters for doing stupid things and if they'd just listen to you they'd live? Well this would be the result if they did listen. And boy does that make for a boring movie.

We get way more character development than plot. I truly could not care less about their 1st world, woah is me, Gen X problems. In fact it made me hate them. I was severely disappointed that none of them died. The prank that went on way too long wasn't scary, it was annoying. The almost slasher next door neighbor thing went no where and took a total of 10 minutes. Maybe less time spent complaining in the script and more time developing the creepy chain people up storyline it would've been a better movie. Well, probably not, it was pretty stupid. I mean even the ending just blah-ed all over the screen. And where did college friend go at the end?

I would've given it one star but the actual filming wasn't bad, it was just wasted on this film.

This movie is like oatmeal, bland and boring. Skip it.

Fresh take on an old idea
haskel-7295119 March 2021
This was fun. It's a bit of a slow burn, but I enjoyed it. It takes the cabin in the woods concept and flips it, then turns it on it's side. Solid acting, good production values for the budget. It has flaws - know how many batteries a gasoline powered car takes and that it won't crank without one - but I can overlook that. Recommended.

A true horror/thriller
vance-2038 May 2021
Most ~90 minute horror flicks all follow the same recipe, so I had low expectations going into this. Man was I wrong! This movie rocked my world! Nicole Brighton Bloom deserves an Oscar, I felt her pain as if I was the one getting rejected from numerous journalism internships. Then at the cabin, who knew that a Clapper switch could invoke such fear and suspense! Right when I thought my heart couldn't beat any faster, the neighbor makes an appearance. Then, what's a horror movie without some sexual tension? The "will they/won't they" of the characters keeps everyone on the edge of their seats. The insane action scene at the neighbor's house was almost too much for me, I had my finger on the pause button in case I needed to take a couple deep breaths. In the end, as the camera slowly pans away, I think we all learned a lot about ourselves. Meryl Streep herself would feel inferior to the quality of acting in this film. 10 stars!!!!

Clap on. Clap off.

Warning: Spoilers
Five young adults before embarking on the next stage of their life decide to stay at grandma's house in the woods. Along the way they stop at store with a girl missing poster. They tell of the legend of the four missing children and grandma believed the cabin was haunted and had a spooky doll to protect her as well as local supernatural literature. And the creepy neighbor stops by. Drama plays out and 50 minutes into the film, someone disappears.

The film cleverly lays all the traps for a cabin-in-the-woods story except we don't get to see any creepy folks in the store. The ending played different than the others in the genre. Francis (Nicole Brydon Bloom ) is introduced first so she would be the final girl and there is one black man (Fergie L. Philippe) in the group so we know who dies first.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.
