Must see film
ashleytyler7027 December 2021
I dont normally write movie reviews, but after seeing The Parker Sessions I had to make an exception. I first saw The Parker sessions at Macabre Faire film festival and was immedietly engrossed. The film follows Parker, a young girl dealing with emotional turmoil becuase of her disturbing past. So she seeks out help from a counselor to help stop her night terrors.

Sometimes films involving therapy sessions and mental health can feel cliche and overdone but that was not the case with this film. Rachell seans performance was raw and real. And the cat and mouse scenes between her and Danny James(counselor) were fun and intriguing to watch. Especially as the film goes on and things start to unravel in an unexpexted and wild way.

The writing was smart, and the black and white cinemetography was beautiful and captivating. Overall the film is a great watch with a wild payoff at the end. And for Stephen King Simmons first feature film, im impressed and cant wait to see what he does next!

Four sessions.

Warning: Spoilers
Aware of this title since it played at FrightFest, I was pleased to see it appear in the line-up of the Cine-Excess Film Festival, leading to me going for a counselling meeting with Parker.

View on the film:

Spending a large part of the film alone together in one room, Rachell Sean and Danny James give a terrific two-header performance as Parker and Robert, thanks to Sean chipping away at Parker's playful/ quirky mask to reveal the raw psychological torment underneath, while James cuts into Robert's professional image, with mutterings under his breath, which Robert voices fully as the sessions continue.

Perhaps the first time where it has appeared that a person was born to make Horror movies, editor/composer/ writer/ director Stephen King Simmons makes his feature film debut by closely working with cinematographer David Komatar, and chairs a terrific seeping Horror atmosphere, via pristine panning shots & close-ups on the chamber piece In high contrast black and white, capturing Parker and Robert peeling layers from their personal space, until brief glimpses in sharply edited flashbacks, unveil what took place before the sessions.

Riveting horror
lorissalon-8006229 April 2022
I found The Parker Sessions very intriguing and psychologically disturbing. I loved the fact it was done in black and white that gave it a scary ambiance . I thought the plot was very well written, the music added to the frightening intense feeling. I felt the ending was the most deep minded ending of a horror film that I have ever seen . I loved every minute of it 👍

Slow burn but well worth it, funny, dark, realistic, well-acted, well-made, interesting, unpredictable, and entertaining with an amazing twist.

Hands down my favorite feature of the festival. Looking forward to seeing more from this director.

Amazing Horror Film with Twists that you don't see coming.
mikesimmons-0782629 April 2022
Saw this Film at the FilmQuest Festival in Provo , Utah. Not usually a fan of Horror films because of the predictability of the outcomes. I don't want to be a spoiler, but this film had more twists and turns than many of the mainstream movies out of Hollywood. The creativity was haunting, but the outcome towards the end took me for a loop. I left the movie wondering if this type of vigilantism should be somewhat acceptable in this day and age. The message in the credits was powerful. I have to say that the music score throughout the movie was top notch and deserves accolades all by itself. Can't believe that this movie was such a low budget movie. The acting was superb. Can't wait to see more work from the writers and producers from this movie.

Violent and powerful
HMorchant25 April 2022
Was lucky enough to watch this movie remotely during a film fest, and I loved every minute of it. Beautiful imagery, slow and steady burn, violence with meaning instead of just for the sake of violence. Leaves you just traumatized enough. Couldn't recommend it more, don't miss out on this psychological horror!

Excellent
candice-0463829 April 2022
I loved this movie . I thought it was so different from most horrors and that's what makes it so unique and brillant. I feel like we needed this movie to show that horror movies can be very different from slashers that have been made over the years. I am a huge horror movie fan and I have not been that impressed with most horrors I have seen in the last decade; but I was so impressed with this film because it was nothing like the others. A job well done👍

"Go see this dark horror film!!"
prettymacabre25 April 2022
This movie had me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole screening. Dark, Emotional, Bloody and Violent in all the right places. Rachell Sean and Danny James both pull strong performances. I wish this film was a little longer. Can't wait to see what the director makes next!

This film illustrates why nightmares are lodged in the deepest darkest part of the mind.

Nightmares really do come true. This movie is made for connoisseurs of true independent horror films. The script was magnificent. The acting excellent. I couldn't stop thinking about this movie for weeks. It is what art and independent film should emulate, This film does take some patience, as all truly good horror independent films do. Don't miss it, or you'll be sorry.

Outstanding

Creative mind at its finest! A step in bringing awareness to the sad truth of someone's every day reality even to celebrity life. How a blind eye can be so easily turned out of pure ignorance.

One Hell of a Debut Film
ryanjamesimhoff24 March 2022
I had the privilege of seeing The Parker Sessions at a film festival back in September. This is a dark, painful story that takes you for a real ride. The direction of the piece is so smooth and self-assured, that it's a surprise that it's director Stephen Simmons' first feature film. Highlights include gorgeous black and white cinematography, a stunning sound design and killer performances from the two leads. I can't wait to talk about this flick once it's more widely available and to see what this team does next.

Great plot twist!

Warning: Spoilers
Was not expecting the ending. Loved the end credits especially! The tension between Parker and her therapist as the film goes on is one of my favorites. Rachel did an amazing job, along with the director dealing with such heavy subject matter.

POWER IN THIS STORY
mariopd657 September 2021
This film is a triumph. It is overall a simple story but every time you think you know what you are watching, there is a twist and that sends you on a different journey until the very end.

A different kind of horror film
anoctoberevening25 April 2022
Dark, well acted and great twists. I saw this film at HorrorHound in 2021. Very cool little indie horror film. If you are easily triggered, stay far away from this film.
