This was one of the best of the Rebus adaptations. The trouble is the series was reaching its end.
Edinburgh is preparing to host a trade summit where politicians and delegates from all over the world will be attending.
Rebus finds the body of a man at the grounds where the conference is to be held. Later the International Development minister is found dead in the grounds of Edinburgh Castle. It is believed that he committed suicide.
Rebus is attracted to the late minister's sister. She is taking part in demonstrations against the globalists. Rebus is also not sure if the minister committed suicide. Standing in his way is Commander Steelforth, the special branch officer who deals with the security for the conference and for the Prime Minister. He even puts Rebus in the jail cell for the night.
A typical complex tale but this one adds up well. Rebus first thinks that corporate corruption might be the order of the day. Later he discovers that the two dead bodies are somehow linked to a past burglary that went wrong.
It was good to see that police high command were prepared to stand up to Commander Steelforth.
