Good but slow
fmaudio-102153 March 2023
Saw the first 3 episodes and I can tell they took a little from the Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Fleetwood Mac story and made a new "that thing you do" show like. I think the episodes are a little slow for the regular viewer and right on the borderline of getting boring, for the music enthusiast it's nice to see a whole series dedicated to a rock music genre. Acting is good but again, screenwriting feels slow, I wish this show had the vibe of the movie "almost famous". Musically, it gets the right energy from the Laurel canyon era, little folkie/country/rock styles, not showing too much drugs though but I guess everything is going to change in the next episodes when they become famous because eventually their going to get there, drugs was a very common tale in rock bands from the 70's.

A Captivating Journey of Redemption and Rivalry

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 3 of Daisy Jones and the Six swept me away with its captivating storytelling. This series masterfully combines drama, emotion, and excitement, and this episode was no exception. It passed by in a flash, so engrossing was its narrative.

On one hand, we have Billy, a character who is struggling to rid himself of his demons and find the path to redemption. His battle to retrieve for the drugs he once consumed is intense, but what's even more touching is his determination to become a present father to his daughter. The first encounter between them is brimming with emotions, and one can't help but be moved by Billy's initial refusal to hold her. It's clear that this reaction stems from a deep fear of disappointing once again, as he likely did with Camila. It's both sad and understandable, adding a layer of complexity to his character. His relationship with Camila seems to be reigniting, and the fire is kindling once more, leaving us hopeful for a fresh start.

Daisy, on the other hand, continues her journey in a dazzling manner. She's a character impossible to dislike. She embodies beauty, humor, wit, and an exceptional voice. Her charisma is undeniable, and one can't help but grow attached to her. The first meeting between Billy and Daisy was inevitably explosive, given their contrasting personalities. However, even within their rivalry, you can already sense the beginnings of a complex relationship.

Daisy Jones and the Six is a series that keeps surprising and charming us. The characters are all endearing in their own ways, and the plot is riveting. Each episode leaves us eagerly anticipating what comes next in this emotionally charged and twist-filled story. I can't wait to see how the relationships between the characters evolve and what new adventures await them. This series is a true delight for fans of drama, music, and well-developed characters.

A pretty solid episode overall.

I flew through the book pretty quick, so everything just felt very quick paced, and I found myself having a hard time putting it down. This show is certainly mostly accurate to the novel so far, but the pacing hasn't quite reached the height of the book for me yet. That easily just be me reading the book as fast as I did though.

I think this episode (and the following one) pretty much establish where things will go from this point on. Billy and Eddie's disagreements, Billy's complicated feelings about working with another frontman (woman), Graham's feelings for Karen, and of course the drug complications that could mean trouble for everyone.

It was good. For something that doesn't FEEL totally how the book did for me, it's honestly pretty close and pretty entertaining. I will say I'm surprised the show picked up as much traction as it did. I'm not use to the general audience loving a show that's paced a little slow like this.

I really like Riley Keough and Sam Claflin as Daisy and Billy. They're both excellent so far. This season is getting pretty good!
