006 and three quarters.

Tony Ball is missing somewhere in Mallorca, and what's worse, he's diabetic, and without his insulin, it appears he may have been abducted.

First off, was it my TV, or were chunks of this pretty dark on screen? That gripe apart, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Clearly capitalising on the good looks of our German Detective, he looks a dashing sight in his tux. We even get 007 jokes.

A clever mystery, and more going on than first meets the eye. The usual quality production values, uplifting music, sun and fun, I adore this show, and genuinely await news of a third series, please don't let this be the penultimate episode.

Being diabetic myself, I understand that there are a few .....flaws shall we say, but it's a drama, bit a documentary.

8/10.

The Blue Feather

The disappearance of a diabetic British birdwatcher sets a race against time.

Max and Miranda need to find him as Tony Ball is without his insulin supply.

Tony's wife knows little about his activities but Tony might have been keeping tabs with a local pet shop owner who might be involved with the sale of illegal birds.

This is another episode with Max in a tuxedo and Miranda does make some James Bond jokes.

The episode really does highlight the breadth of beauty of Mallorca as it explores its natural area.

The mystery has a few good twists.

Should have made it the last in the shortened season.

This episode was supposed to be 5 of 10 so there is a stronger end scene to mark the half-way point. However, due to the pandemic, filming stopped after episode 6, which only has a little laugh at the end. I think they should have swapped 5 and 6 to round this shortened season off better.

A bit darker than usual

I really enjoyed this episode as it was a bit darker than the usual episodes given there was a missing person without his diabetes medicine and it was becoming a race to find him. I will take aim at other reviewers who cannot see that this is a light-hearted police show, it really doesn't matter if they don't get every single thing right, it is not like it is a show telling you what to do in case of a medical emergency, just like the show for what it is ie entertainment.

Not very accurate.

Warning: Spoilers
I have type 1 diabetes myself and there are lots of inaccuracies during this episode. First, the orange box they find in the camper van is not an insulin kit. It is a glucagen hypo kit. It is used for treating bad hypoglycaemia. It comes with a syringe filled with a liquid solution which is missing from the box and a small glass vial filled with the glucagen/glucagon in powder form.

We do have injector pens and it did look like Max picked up insulin.

Miranda says Ball will only have enough insulin to last twelve to fifteen hours. I'm from England and I don't know about insulin in Spain but my vials have 100ml. Depending on whether or not he carbohydrate counts or does set doses from his doctor it would effect how long it lasts. I carbohydrate count and my ratio is 1:1. A vial of insulin would probably last me two days, maybe more, depending on how much carbohydrate I eat.

When they find him in the cage she gets his injection pen. On the needles there is a larger plastic piece on top of the purple bit seen in the episode and it's sealed with paper. You also have to screw them on my pen.

Miranda didn't dial any insulin on the end of the pen before injecting him in the arm. Also even if she did, if she gave him too much insulin he might go into hypoglycaemia, or if she didn't do enough he would still be hyperglycaemiac. She should have checked his blood sugar before injecting him, but I know she didn't have it.

You're supposed to inject insulin into the fatty tissue just below the skin. My nurse told me not to inject in my arms probably because it's more likely to go into my muscle which makes the insulin work faster. So it was probably right for her to do it in his arm if she had given him insulin.

Also, it takes 30 minutes for insulin to start working so it's realistic that Ball didn't wake up straight away.

Unused insulin cartridges are supposed to be kept refrigerated from 36°F to 46°F. Cartridges that you're using have to be kept from 56°F to 80°F. Sometimes the weather in Majorca can be higher than this.
