'All The Trimmings (2019)' is a social-realist short film about a father trying to provide his family with a proper Christmas dinner. It's certainly inspired by the work of Ken Loach. That's not a bad thing, though. The picture is an empathetic portrait of the sort of family you don't usually get to see on screen. It's a low-key, grounded affair that gets you onboard with its characters' somewhat questionable decisions straight away. You care about its core players enough to see past their rough exteriors. It's a solid slice of storytelling. At times, it's unexpectedly suspenseful, too. 7/10
