I have just watched elephant hospital on channel 5, and i dont agree to the elephants all being chained up by their feet, it supposed to be a sanctuary for them, i could see 1 of the elephants swaying back and forth in distress, awful to see, they should be free to roam .

An eye opening document about animal hospital.

As a Thai-born Australian, I can easily understand many people may feel seeing and thinking all this elephants are captive and chained up etc. Elephants are the Thais' noble animal. They are too many poachers around in Thailand and even from other countries that are awaiting for an opportunity to kill and take the magnificent ivory tusks. They will be like rhino in Africa if they are roaming around without protection. To keep them in a sanctuary or so call elephant village is the best way to keep them safe and out of the city street. There are much more in details than what you saw on the documentary. Best is to spend time in Thailand, learn the cultures, politics and be physically there in one of the sanctuary, study in DEPTH about the Thais and their elephants to gain more knowledge and true understanding in order that you can provide correct information.

The majority of the Thais loves their elephant immensely. I am a veterinarian myself and I love watching this documentary. This shows all the love and dedication that all the vets are doing there. I had an opportunity to visit LamPang elephant hospital when I was in vet school. You certainly can see no one willing to give up on helping the sick elephants.

Also really encourage you to do some researches about mahout. A deep connection and bond between mahout and his elephant is a lifetime relationship. Elephant is his family, is everything. Most of them would never choose a different path but to be a mahout.

I trust that my very little input shall guid the reader to the right direction. Please read and watch with open heart. Focus on what this documentary is trying to delivered. The love, the dedication of all vets and mahouts to elephants and do research.

Thank you for taking your time to read and thank you for your understanding.
