on life and death

Warning: Spoilers
On Earth As it is in Heaven is little short time. (Runtime:21 min). At beginning of the movie we see a tree in a lone landscape. It seems to be the only tree in a vast space. Later on, we see a painting hung on the wall. The painting depicts the very same tree we have just seen. Then we see the owner(Paul Hébert)of this little flat. Apparently,he straightens his tie properly for a solemn occasion. When he gets down to take the cab, the cameraman shows us a sign:" Residence pour personnes agees". When he gets in the taxi, the cabdriver says he has never liked the funerals. The old fellow who lost his wife chooses to be quiet. He just listens to the droning of the cabdriver. After the procession the old man has so much time to think. While looking at the paintings, he recollects his whole life with his wife vividly. In a magnificent frame, the film shows us the land around that lone tree in four seasons. At first snow, then the sultry yellow grass and finally flourishing verdant land. This is just like the death and rebirth struggle of nature and the old fellow asks himself "How much more time do I have left?" In a monologue he realizes that people around him expect his imminent death because one of the couple go, the other is just bound to go too but he defies this common envision and says he still has that joie de vivre to go on. This little piece look like it is really intended to be a serious artistic work rather than a piece of popular entertainment. If you do enjoy small-time art house movies, if you like to reflect upon art then there is no reason why you shouldn't like this movie but if you do see movies as just a way of entertainment I don't think you should bother to see this one.
