The Double
JordanThomasHall17 December 2018
Blondie recalls the time when she was in the Fremont High School Frolic of 1937 and felt she had a promising future in show business. Mr. Dithers has landed a nice contract with Willard Scott (character actor Francis De Sales). They go to the swanky Cookoo Club to celebrate. The nightclub singer Lillian Lorrel (a dual role played by Pamela Britton) bears an exact resemblance to Blondie. Mr. Dithers causes such a scene that he is thrown out of the club. He tells Dagwood the next morning who in turn questions Blondie about being out last night. Blondie becomes highly nervous. Herb tells Dagwood that he heard Blondie hit someone with a bottle in a nightclub the night prior. They're suspicious when they find a cut on her finger. In truth, Blondie has been sneaking out at night to take bowling lessons so they can win the husband and wife tournament. (Why would she have to sneak to do this?) Herb and Dagwood suspect the worst when they pick up the phone with Blondie talking to her male bowling instructor telling her to "meet her at the same time in the alley". Dagwood has a nightmare that she is leaving him. He awakes to find her gone and goes to the club she is supposedly working at. There he finds Lillian, who he believes to be Blondie in the arms of her musician boyfriend Pete (Max Showalter, credited as Casey Adams). The two men get in a fight in which Lillian is knocked out cold. What will happen when he carries her back home?

Some nice laughs somewhat make up for the plot being a stretch. With a couple of songs, the show really seems to be a showcase for Pamela Britton to exhibit her voice.

A NOIR MYSTERY WITH BLONDIE
tcchelsey13 February 2023
This is an outstanding episode, perhaps the best of the short series. A nightclub singer, called Lillian, who is the identical twin of Blondie, is mistaken for her! Pamela Britton is super as the torch singer, pulling out all the stops as a noir type vixen in a shapely black dress. She even sings a tune. It all begins with Mr. Dithers spots her at the club, which makes you wonder what he's doing there in the first place! This is fun stuff as the whole cast goes nuts, including Dagwood, who thinks his wife is leading a sordid double life! Character actor Max Showalter appears at the pianist. Recommended for buffs of the series.
