Unsettling but necessary viewing.

It's really commendable for the creators of "Des" to chronicle the story of Dennis Nilsen's conviction without ever venturing in to territory which could've so easily become sensationalist or disrespectful to any of his victims - had other people been entrusted to helm the major undertaking for ITV instead.

Hence, for them to have concluded the series with this final episode - making it until the very end - whilst additionally ensuring not a single scene ever did a disservice to those who suffered as a consequence of his actions - avoiding making the same obvious mistakes so many other real life crime dramas have often made in the past - is truly remarkable & worthy of the audience's genuine appreciation.

It's uncomfortable to sit through but undoubtedly recommended, regardless.

A truly brilliant final part.

Nilsen is playing a very clever game with the Police, he is no fool, and proves a tough nut to crack.

This has been sensational from the off, what an outstanding drama this has been, Part three completes the trio of incredible episodes. Tennant has been unbelievable throughout, is there anything that man cannot do!!!!

That scene where a survivor explains the story, phenomenal. The court scenes were excellent.

Torrens, Mays, the whole cast do a terrific job.

I was keen to read what people were saying about this show, and most people have been as captivated as I have, there seem to have been some complaints about people smoking..... some people truly have too much time on their hands.

Disturbing, and tremendous, great job ITV, 10/10.

Episode 3

The third episode concentrated on the legal case to convict Dennis Nilsen. The police think they have their man. After all Nilsen casually confessed to everything.

Of course Nilsen knowing he will get life for murder, goes for diminished responsibility. This means he would be convicted of manslaughter with the judge having discretion with the sentence.

The police express surprise at this for some reason. Given that Nilsen was looking at life in prison, it would had been expected that he would make such a move.

It was not much of a drama to see the police moping about and complaining about this.

It actually made me think that maybe the writers should had looked at this drama from the point of view of the victims.

I read a comment online from a gay man who when he was much younger he had moved from his closeted little town to London in the early 1980s. Knowing next to nothing of the London gay scene, he found himself in the kind of gay pubs that Nilsen frequented.

It was only when he befriended someone who warned him of some of the pubs and clubs to avoid, pointed out some of the unsavoury characters who hung around these places. Tha man felt that as a naive inexperienced new lad in the city, he could had easily fallen prey to someone like Nilsen.
