Short and straight to the point

One of the simplest and more direct films I've seen in a while, A Secret Rendezvous is about a married woman and a student who have an affair, witness a crime, and then feel torn of whether to go to the police about what they saw, or keep it to themselves, in the process ensuring that their affair stays a secret.

It deals with repressed feelings and forbidden relationships in a way that's expected for a film of its age, and still holds up okay. But that really is the main plot, with little else going on, and if it had been much longer than its 72 minutes, I don't know whether I would've been able to stay with it very well.

I guess also in the film's favour is its acting and presentation. It's all solidly made, and hard to fault for a lower-budget, (probably very) quickly shot Japanese movie; the kind the major studios in Japan were - and maybe even still are - really good at churning out.
