Toni English aka Kelly Holland is in top form directing "Power Play" for Penthouse. Famed for her classic Adam & Eve series "Naked Hollywood" she brings her A game to this project, standing out in bold relief from the hundreds of generally mediocre titles she and writer Marc Cushman/Cash Markman cranked out for Penthouse from 2006 through 2011.
Told mainly in flashback narrated in voice-over by star Audrey Hollander, the tale audaciously begins with a show-stopping scene of Audrey servicing in a threesome her pimp Otto Bauer and a client, in which Audrey's sexual prowess before the camera is truly impressive (as is her beauty, with perfect peaches & cream complexion on display). Besides nonpareil deep-throat technique she demonstrates a variety of d.p. positions including a double anal that still set a high standard a decade later. And this is not mere gonzo spectacle, but embedded in a character study and story feature.
The six sex scenes are all well-performed, if hardly as starting as the first one. We learn about Southern girl fleeing to L.A. I'm outspoken in my IMDb reviews with my disdain for the underwhelming scripts from Markman but this one (like his hit comedy "Get Lucky") is a happy exception to the rule, and makes for an excellent Adult movie.
