This short film begins with some rather neat camera work. Then it makes a nice transition to an apartment where a couple are suddenly plunged into darkness. As the husband struggles in the dark to find a flashlight, he accidentally leaves his apartment and wanders into a nearby one--where a bizarre cult is about to perform a human sacrifice!! Despite the total absurdity of this and the cult's insistence that they are doing this to avoid the imminent total destruction of the Earth, the film manages to carry this off brilliantly by taking such an odd idea and playing it perfectly--resulting in a completely original and hilarious film. And, to make things better, several times throughout this short film there are some amazingly odd twists that make the film hard to predict and side-splitting funny. I'd like to say more, but it would spoil the fun.
By the way....why is this film rated so poorly?! It's fantastic and a must-see. I can't wait to see more from the geniuses who made ASCENSION.
