Peter has been asked to step in at the last minute as the best man at a wedding. He needs to buy a suit but the assistant at the tailor's (Richard Wilson) is far from helpful giving Peter an ill fitting suit. Peter also has a run in with a large irate man while Sheila goes looking for a nice dress for herself.
On the day of the wedding Peter takes the groom to the wrong church and then mislays the wedding ring. The large irate man turns out to be the bride's father.
I did watch 'A Sharp Intake of Breath' when I was a kid and this is the only episode I can recall. Also there literally is a few sharp intakes of breath in this episode at one point Peter looking straight at the camera when Richard Wilson does it.
However I did find the first half of the episode better than the second half, the groom was a bit of a wet lettuce and I could never buy that Peter and him actually knew each other never mind Peter being his substitute best man.
