Another Movie Good from an Academic Standpoint
DirtyStarling1 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This is another one of those movies that's good from an academic standpoint, but not from an entertainment standpoint. I do my ratings based on entertainment value, so I gave this film a 1. However, it is interesting from an academic standpoint.

It's basically an 11 minute study of loss. The whole movie is a single shot of a cabin during a funeral. The scenery does feel very empty, and there's a detachment to it that conveys loss. However, nothing really happens in the film. A guy walks up to the cabin, walks out, and sits on a porch. The funeral procession walks out with the casket, then the guy leaves.

I almost feel this would've been better as a series of photographs or paintings. After about 3 minutes you wonder if that's all there is to the movie. I guess that's the point, since it is a study of loss, but it really doesn't go anywhere and can get pretty boring.

This film is only interesting as an academic study of loss in the mise-en-scene and the way it was shot. It is not good for entertainment value because, it just leaves you so empty. Even if that's the point, it's not a good watch to get the point across.

1/10 for entertainment value. 6/10 from an academic standpoint.
