"Young Ones shouldn't be afraid."

Yes, Rik, Ade and Chris aren't interviewed. Maybe it was due to the fact that they already talked about for over two decades. How would you feel? However, at least they got my fave Young One Neil and the Landlord.

Producer Jackson said he was in a comedy club looking for performers to star in a TV show he wanted to produce. Rik, Ade, Nigel, Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders were all there. They were out of Uni and decided to take up comedy.

Jackson was taken by Rik's poet and Nigel's hippie and thought they would be good characters in a TV series. He got in touch with Rik and Lise Mayer (his gf at the time) who both had an idea based on their experience living with others at Uni. This became The Young Ones.

They talked about the cartoon violence, rebellion against authority and the intentionally bad puppetry.

The episode where Rick lights the cooker and it explodes, the FX team put too many explosives in. It wasn't meant to have that big of an explosion.

For the second series, they discus putting frames and snippets of pointless things. This was a very, very weird show.

Finally they decided to kill the characters off after two seasons. This was Rik's idea. He stated "If John Cleese only made 12 episodes, why should I make any more?"

I agree. Less is more. The more seasons you make, the less creative fuel you'll have. That's why shows like The Simpsons and South Park are going downhill.

Overall a great doc on a great sitcom.
