A very nice journey.

I enjoyed this winter journey in Québec.

As soon as the winter arrives the life of the Quebeckers is changing. First of all the Saint-Laurent river is partly frozen: Martin Leveillée is the captain of a traversier ( the French canadian name for ferry) and explains that the navigation is quite complicated in winter. Besides Jonathan Delisle and his colleagues of the Coast Guard travel by helicopter over the river to observe the frozen parts of the river.

But the frozen river is also a place of sport: Richard "Wax" Beaulieu practice snow kiting.

In the mountains near Québec the people enjoy snowtubing (young and older enjoy going down the slopes on their tubes).

Besides Martin and his friends enjoy climbing a frozen waterfall.

After one day in the snow the people enjoy the traditional poutine: Davide Lassonde explains his recipe of poutine: crusty French fries, cheddar cheese and an excellent gravy.

Beginning of February there is a carnival in Québec: Marc Lepire is an ice sculpter who enjoys to make ice statues: then there is the ice canoeing competition and later the great parade with ice sculptures, lights and sounds.

In a forest we meet David Robillard a trapper who has trapped a marten and preparing a trap for minks. The Quebec province has been famous in the past for the furs trade: now Mariouche Gagne is recovering old furs and creating new fur clothes.

We discover the world of the snow scooters (or snowmobiles): Claude Hamelin is a track marker at the beginning of the winter: Pierre Pelletier is a collector of snow scooters and Sabrina takes part in the Ski-doo Grand Prix of Valcourt.

I appreciatre also the zoom about the Isle-aux-Grues; the children of this island attend school in Montmagny travelling by plane every day in winter.

There are about 80 inhabitants in the island: Mathieu Gagnon breeds milky cows and send the milk to the cheese factory of the island (cheddar, brie and tomme).

Claude Vesina who is lived abroad has returned to his home island and makes paintings about the life in the island.

I enjoyed the encounters of Sophie with Arnaud Marchand, his wife Sophie and the children, with Michael Savoie (the ice canoeing) , with Alain Priem (the plane on skis), with Patricia Brouard (Saint Paulin), with Frédéric Manseau , the musher, with Emmanuel Proulx, the mycologist, with Steve Blancehette the fisherman on ice, with Marine Priem (a young seaplane pilot) and with Laurence Plante-Garceau (the horseback riding): very nice encounters with very kind Quebec men and women.
