The traveling executioner...

Warning: Spoilers
It's not the Jack Smight's film - starring Stacy Keach - I am talking about, but a pretty good french TV movie whose story is based on actual events. This unusual topic takes place during the last months of WW1, In France, where the prime french executioner - sort of master of the guillotine - is requested in Belgium to "take care" of a civilian murderer, a guy who killed his wife. Crime of passion, nothing to do with war. So, the french government asks the military forces to escort the executioner through the lines to the north of France and Belgium.

And this is the story of this odyssey that this films is about. The train where our leads take place is wrecked during a bombing raid and they have to cross the country side with the guillotine - the widow - taken to pieces in some wooden boxes.

Unusual, isn't it?

And of course it's a sort of lost patrol scheme the audience has to deal with.

And also a consideration about right to kill for a soldier besides the executioner's one.

We could say that it's definitely an anti war film, but rather brilliant for a TV movie, without useless pyrotechnics and gore effects, as we perhaps could have seen in a real non TV feature.

The characters are perfectly played.

An interesting item. Really...
