A warts and all overview of the life and career of Dan Dailey.
planktonrules7 May 2014
Although this short is too short, I really appreciated this special feature I found on the DVD for the Dan Dailey film "The Girl Next Door". It stars Irene Daily (Dan's sister), Larry Billman (film historian) and Drew Casper (professor of cinema at USC). Each talk about Dan and his talents but the part I admired most was listening to his late sister. She was very open and honest about him. Although she loved him as well as his talents, she was not about to whitewash his life like so many similar films do. She talks about his great attributes but also mentions his 'demons'--alcoholism, depression, many marriages* and the suicide of his only child. The film did a great job in both humanizing Dailey as well as getting you to appreciate what a multi-talented guy he was--as they say he 'was the whole package'--able to do drama, comedy as well as be a song and dance man. Well worth seeing and well made...warts and all!

*She mentioned five marriages yet IMDb only mentions four. This is because his first was quickly annulled and isn't listed on his IMDb biography.
