Good, but too short....
planktonrules18 November 2012
The DVD for "Hollywood Cavalcade" has three very short special features included on the disc. Together, the three probably would have worked a bit better because they just weren't very complete on their own. However, they are still worth seeing.

The film is a making of featurette for the movie. It mostly focuses on Alice Faye in the film and doesn't really talk much about her co-star, Don Ameche. The film discusses the parallels in the film to the real history of silent movies as well as the many divergent aspects of the movie. Overall, it's quite interesting and a nice accompaniment to the film but it also seemed a bit superficial and left me wanting more. Worth your time but too, too short.

Hollywood Cavalcade: The Silent Dream was an interesting extra on the movie's DVD

This was an extra on the DVD of Hollywood Cavalcade. It had quite a few talking heads (including Hugh Hefner!) mentioning the film's tribute to the silent era with one of those heads mentioning the various celebs the characterizations of Don Ameche and Alice Faye were based on as the film covered the various genres of the period and the eventual transition to sound as well as the stardom of one Rin-Tin-Tin who made a cameo in the movie and was someone producer Darryl F. Zanuck once wrote for. It also focused on how Faye became less interested in making movies when becoming a mother and her eventual walking away from them. This was fascinating to watch for me so on that note, I recommend it.
