Mr. Yunioshi: An Asian Perspective provides some insightful commentary of how far we've come concerning Asian characterizations in Hollywood movies from that unfortunate time

This extra on disc 2 Bonus Features of the Breakfast at Tiffany's DVD set discusses the negative implications of having the Japanese character in that movie being portrayed by a Caucasian (Mickey Rooney) in caricature form and how subsequent portrayals of various Asian characters are more positively depicted. We also see clips of many white actors in Asian makeup and then someone like George Takei playing a fine authority figure in one of the Star Trek movies. Many of the people commenting on screen are members of the Media Action Network for Asian Americans including the founding president Guy Aoki who I also knew was a member of the crew of Casey Kasem's radio show "American Top 40" during the '80s. Those comments are insightful about the whys of certain things as well as some historical perspective like during the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. So that's a recommendation of Mr. Yunioshi: An Asian Perspective.
