Two Trivia Notes That May Help You Like It More
truthbrarian26 September 2021
I just wanted to say for visuals, interesting ideas, the inversion of the original Star Wars plot its a decent episode and fun enough but I want to list three things: 1) The creators of this episode are playing around with a debunked theory that Lightsabers are extensions of force users proficiency in the force, so that gives a person the ability to throw their lightsaber energy around 2) Another kooky theory the writers are employing is that some Star Destroyers are so gigantic that they can have a gravitational pull and sustain some sort of atmosphere and therefore be warm and breathable in some way 3) This is "Japanese Star Wars" if you will so they aren't necessarily bound to our versions canon

If you go by these conceits, its an easier episode to swallow.

Great visuals. Don't like the story...at all really
snakehead-1627823 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The animation was a joy to behold in this, but the experience kept getting put off by the messy story. Putting aside the insane lore-breaking in this...the story of the twins themselves seemed really rushed and out of focus. I think they had an interesting idea but the short runtime hurt the narrative a lot in this one.

The twins

Warning: Spoilers
Not sure how I felt about this episode, currently watching all the episodes in order and this one especially one left me with mixed feelings. I felt like the story took a big hit due to lack of time, which isn't the Japanese studios fault, I get what they were trying to do with this episode and on paper this could've been one of the better episodes. The concept is great, a pair of twins, one good, one evil, the only problem I had was the direction the story took. First of all, breathing in space? Really? Come on now I get that these episodes aren't canon but it was extremely distracting to me during the big fight scene. I did like the evil twin, her lightsaber whips were awesome, but the good twin didn't make any sense to me. How are they both born, raised and conditioned together to be both evil Sith Lords and the brother is just randomly a good guy? After all these years he was just holding it in? I get that he was doing it just to save his sister but that's not something a sith would do. I have to keep reminding myself that these aren't canon. I hope we get to see them again because I feel like it could develop into a great story with even better characters. And that ending scene!!! Seeing a star destroyer getting sliced into 2 by a lightsaber was just beautiful!!! Literally. I want to print out that shot and hang it on a wall. Shout out to the artists that worked on this episode.

Flashy but very irealistic fights. The story didn't make me feel anything. The characters were okay, but that's pretty much it.

Since when can people breathe in space and move freely? Since when do savers bend like strings?

Weakest episode for me
pohlowell23 September 2021
I can't see myself giving this episode a higher score. I mean the animation was cool, but this episode was filled with over the top exposition, no action, and just about every Star Wars quote known. All of which, took me out of it. I actually found myself pausing to see how much time was left.

The spirit of Star Wars
the-phil-courtney22 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode felt so much like Star Wars. I think the other reviews are trying to take these episodes too literally. They meant to be over the top and exceed the "rules". That's pretty typical for anime. This story is the heart of Star Wars. The duality of man, having the right to a choice, impossible odds, families at odds with each other.

Starts mediocre, goes on full BS

Hope next time creators watch or gather information about the universe they create episodes or shows to. Rebel fighter in the base and no one suspects treason ? Droid at the start act like more "human" than any character in episode. Animation is meh, story is copied from everywhere else in SW: Legends.

Amazingly fun

Warning: Spoilers
Beautiful animation and art, awesome fighting choreography or whatever you want to call what that crazy stuff was, boy sibling trying to get through to his sister was touching, homage to Luke & Leia. It's like an alternate universe version of what their life could've been if the Sith got them at birth.

When the guy twin cut that Star Destroyer in half my jaw was on the floor. Insane, but I loved it. The girl twin is one of the best anime girls of 2021.

I'm fine with them breathing in space because they were artificially created so that could've been factored into their creation. They're also both so powerful with the force in my head cannon they're just using the force like a Black Clover mana skin or ten from HxH or a Lantern power ring outline

So many cool moments I want more of this story.

Terrible

The voice acting in this one is absolutely atrocious. Alison Brie and Neil Patrick Harris sound like they were told to act as though they're in a Micky Mouse cartoon. This was hard to listen to. Skip it.

A Grand Laugh
collinhel23 September 2021
Wow! These episodes are absolutely hilarious. This one in particular had my wife, son, and myself cracking up. The anime over-explaining, with more talking than action. Spitting and fitting every classic Star Wars line as possible. No spacesuits in space for the humans but the droid had one!

This was a real knee-slapping side-splitter. Definitely worth a watch for the laughs!

Stupid and Weird

Warning: Spoilers
Preachy kid tries to murder his sister in order to save her life.

Doesn't really make much sense, more of a mishmash of overused anime tropes thrown into a blender with a little Star Wars nail polish.

Warning: Spoilers
I mean, I thought it was pretty decent. I must not be much of a screenwriter because I didn't seem to dislike this short story as much as everyone else. Isn't that sort of the point of a short story? To have something that's at least investing enough if it isn't strong? You can only do so much with this time frame I feel. Perhaps this would have been better at an hour long.

I think the first half feels like star wars and the last half less so with all of the breathing in space and weird lightsabers and some other logic that didn't quite make sense. But I do agree with anyone saying it's not technically "canon", so I don't know, I guess physics and stuff don't work the same here as they do in the other movies and shows.

The animation is truly stunning, as was the voice work. I will admit that the references got a little silly. I'd feel a little guilty being a jerk about it though. This is someone else's "vision" and I hope they're happy about it. I'm content enough and just happy this kind of Star Wars show exists.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was kinda dull. The action was a little cool, but quickly became unbelievable when Karre and Am were in zero grav, but also not, and not suffocating. Why couldn't the battle have taken place just above a planet surface?

For me, the best episode. Fluid animation and well done, and tries to answer a question "What if Luke and Leia were on the dark side?" And he's a lot of fun.

"Step into the light Karre Am"
southdavid12 October 2021
The third episode of "Star Wars Visions" is a wild and fantastical short, where the rules of physics are scarified for visual splendour.

A pair of twins, Karre (Neil Patrick Harris) and Am (Alison Brie) are born of the dark side of the force and trained to lead the imperial army. With an unstoppable weapon in their hands, a powerful laser canon between their Gemini Class Star Destroyers, victory seems inevitable. However, Karre steals the canon's power source, setting the twins at odd and beginning a violent battle between them.

Were you to look through my reviews, I think you'd get a sense that I tend to favour story above all else. So it would be a little disingenuous of me to speak highly of the rather muddled narrative of this one, just because it has one really odd, but really cool visual in the midst of it's last few minutes. It really does though!

I didn't rub up against the vocal performances, as some have, and I found it to be visually OK. Nothing like as strong as "The Duel" but artier than "Tatooine Rhapsody". Again, I feel like some of my fellow reviewers have missed entirely the concept of this series, and that it's not taking place in any established timeline.

That said. It's hard to be too appreciative of fine moments, if they come in service of a weak story and I'm afraid that this feels like that to me.

Gorgeous, energetic, and incredibly well acted

Visually stunning as most of Studio Triggers other work, and led by two great performances, Alison Brie being the real standout. The last action scene alone is pure spectacle.

Wrong on so many levels...
Kitahito14 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Somehow it is amazing that more stupidity has been condensed here for a quarter of an hour than TLJ has for two and a half hours. Super cyber-crystal! Lightsaber beam! Light-whiplashes! Ad hoc lightsaber coming out of a sith power suit! Twin star destroyer! Breathing in space! Hyperspace jumping into a star destroyer and cutting it in half with a rainbow-lightsaber while precisely destroying an inch long crystal on the chest of a sith gal! Surviving a hyperspace jump without a spacesuit standing on top of a trashed X-wing! (It's a nice attempt to legitimize the Holdo maneuver, but it's still absurd rubbish, but at least you've managed to cover it up with a bigger absurdity, the Karre maneuver! Give us a break guys, just one year without impossible, rule breaking shenanigans, one year! Is it too much to ask?!)

Honestly, it's art to squeeze so many damn nonsense idiotism into a quarter of an hour! When you mutter to yourself every 10-15 seconds in shocked disbelief -What the world am I looking at?!, you know you're eating quality Star Wars compost manure again! And the dialogues! Oh those dialogues! I don't know who wrote them, but I'm also sure they hasn't really met a living person yet, and has been trying to tutor themself from the big sausage pizza-type adult movies. Don't be shy now, keep winking at Star Wars with blatant references because that's very important, as we know! An "I have a bad feeling about this..." a day keeps the angry fans away, right?! But hey, at least the graphic style is kinda good! It looks cool, and cool things are happening! Wow, so animu, very 'sterwers! I would applaud, but somehow I still have standards.

Gorgeous animation, horrific dub
SnarkyQueen25 September 2021
For the love of all that is holy, watch with the Japanese audio and subtitles. The true horror here is Alison Brie, truly a ghastly performance, and NPH isn't much better.

Lore, physics, whatever, who cares. It's animated space wizards. The writing is corny and boring, but serviceable. It's the nightmarish English VO that really makes this one hurt.

Warning: Spoilers
Everything about this episode is terrible. Almost everything that happens it lore breaking and is plain disrespectful to everything Star Wars. The "super lightsabre" thing is stupid, the fight in the vacuum of space is stupid and the jump to hyperspace with Karre on the outside of the ship is stupid. The dialogue is terrible with very forced cliche Star Wars lines. I know that the purpose of visions is to push the boundaries of what Star Wars is and episodes like "the ninth Jedi" do that spectacularly, but this episode is just stupid.
