Unresolved weeping
Igenlode Wordsmith11 May 2009
I have to say that I didn't enjoy this at all: it was an extremely tedious experience, as the constantly unresolved accompaniment on the soundtrack kept the viewer hanging, waiting for something to happen (and, after a while, trying to work out whether the visuals were actually on a loop or not, as the individual close-up images being used started to look distinctly familiar). Then, when the singing finally kicked in, it didn't even seem to be the right music: I thought I'd learnt "Signore, ascolta" off by heart, and while it may well be an extract from Puccini's Turandot, I really didn't recognise the brief phrase used as any part of Liu's aria. I'm probably displaying my ignorance here...
