The Delicate Dance of Color and Light
muge-b16 August 2009
I had the opportunity to see Mon Reve Familier at the Newport Beach Film Festival. I was quite surprised to see such a different short film. Mon Reve Familier has a visual design which is far beyond a short film quality. The director Jim Ferguson skillfully presents the delicate dance of color and light. It is absolutely your feelings the director aims to reach and he perfectly manages it. From the first moment on, you feel no need to hear the words since the visual beauty of the film drifts you back into your own love pains you had in your past and the ones you will have in your unknown future. Through the astonishing use of light and the deliberate camera movements, the film inevitably reminds you the deepness of love and the sense of eternity. Minimal acting does help to emphasize the beauty of the images. The length of the film is long enough to draw attention to the carefully designed lighting, as well as to reveal the story. When the film is over, the audience is left with the purity of the art of cinema. I will be expecting to see new films from the director in the future.
