This episode was a calming break in the action after the last one.
We get a recognition of the importance Hoyt played to the characters. (Minor to some viewers, Major to the characters and viewers like me who instantly adored the rogue.)
xx
I was relieved we backed away from both "ships" in this episode. The writers might bring them back around, though I personally hope not. However, for now it was necessary that Stella show growth by ditching the boy who almost shot her dad (ISN'T TREVOR IN JAIL?)
What a relief also that Stella almost confessed to her dad what she did (which really kicked the Walker family into this story line of destruction with Clint.)
And we spent the first season being trained that Emily is Walker's OTP, so his character needs an easing back into relationships. Not something so heavy, so fast.
I'd have honestly stopped watching if it became overbalanced and all about romance at the expense of family.
Xx
Meanwhile, we also got an amazing other half with Micki, Trey, and James. Trey's back story. Micki boxing. James unwinding a bit from his boss role. LOVED IT.
This entire cast is amazing and I'm glad they all have good stories along with the show's major plot. Lindsey especially deserves a shout out for her portrayal of a strong, confident woc.
Add in the seasoning of Bonham and Abeline finally FINALLY talking. That a CW show gives the parents a realistic, tense story is incredibly impressive given their track record to date. (So kudos!)
xx
Behind the camera, the writing on this episode was perfect. Characters were true to how they've been introduced. There were complications and nuances. Tiny promises for future episodes seeded in (Bret's text)
The director did an outstanding job.
Music and acting on point.
It was a quiet episode, but it carried it's weight in gold.
