Happy Birthday to Woe...
Xstal26 November 2022
Like all good hauntings, there needs to be a house, that's all dark and dingy and riddled with louse (or creepy crawlies generally), where cobwebs prevail, the air's grey and stale, the antitheses of, any place you'd carouse. So Wednesday and Tyler and Edith explore, they're not really sure what it is they look for, though behind hidden walls, with their fine knitted shawls, a candescence of evidence provides the decor. But the story so far has left several threads dangling, like all good detectives, she'll need her best wangling, to find the culprit (or culprits), and to make the crimes stick, preventing more souls being lost after mangling.

Enid is better.
sadbbygoth27 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The episode started off great with the seance, leading up to the surprise birthday party for wednesday. The search for the monster in the gates house was the perfect amount of thrill, and a smart yet easy way to add another twist to derail the investigation. The scratch marks on tyler and arrival of xavier influenced the red herring of who the monster could've been. That being said, the love triangle between the boys and wednesday is still annoying and only made them seem creepy and insistent as she never pursued nor showed any real interest to either. Wednesday only ever talked to the boys for her own gain and to further the investigation.

Wednesday showed care for Enid throughout the season, and was more upset at her anger than when xavier or tyler had their dramatic outbursts. The boys made it seem as if they were led on and owed some sort of reciprocation of emotion/feeling from wednesday. Enid on the other hand always respected Wednesdays boundaries, never forcing a hug or declaration/validation of their friendship. The male love interests felt forced and rash. As shown by the hug in the final episode, i think enid was the only one who accepted wednesday for who she really was and cared for her enough to risk her life and finally "wolf out" even in the midst of their argument. Wednesday showed more emotion after the argument than with Enid, curling up into a ball and nearly crying- than she expressed after her first kiss turned out to be the monstrous serial killer. All in all, wenclair is the superior and only practical ship.

Good Wednesday and Enid episode
snoozejonc11 January 2023
Wednesday's friends attempt to celebrate her birthday, but she has other plans.

This is a good episode with some strong character moments.

The central mystery continues to drip feed information at an appropriate pace to allow the filmmakers to showcase a bit of horror movie suspense. This is done well, with great attention paid to the characters behaviour in certain situations as well as the strong visuals on display. It is another chapter that ends with you wanting to find out what comes next.

A big part of the plot is Wednesday's attitude towards her friends and potential love interests. For me, the dynamic with the boys is adequate but not great, as I do not find them particularly interesting characters. What does work is her relationship with Enid, which is credit to the writers for plausibly portraying how this character would react to Wednesday's behaviour. The chemistry between Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers is one of the highlights of the show.

There are some scenes involving Bianca and Lucas that slightly develop the characters more, but I think it needs to lead to something worthwhile for it to be a significant arc. I will reserve judgement until the outcome of this becomes clear.

As ever the cinematography and art design is excellent, with a great soundtrack that enhances everything.

For me it's a 7.5/10, but I round upwards.

A good effort
lorenarufino116 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The plot thickens. Another death, another brush in with the monster and, unfortunately, more Goody and Crackpot visions.

Wednesday manages to hurt/piss off just about everybody, which is only to be expected, because, while we love her cold and unfeeling disposition, it tends to offend the average person. Time to throw closed ones a bone in order to keep them at arm's length.

It's becoming increasingly obvious that Xavier is not the monster. Nothing exciting could ever happen to that boy. But Wednesday ought to put him firmly in his place soon, because the kid is straying into stalker territory.

An action packed episode and a solid effort.

Only 2 episodes left...
funnycommentor6 December 2022
The plot of the 6th episode was really interesting and I really enjoyed that episode. The storyline was very well written and it's really clever. Overall, it was a really intense episode, full of unexpected scenes and I really liked it. The last 20 minutes was probably the best part of episode 6, it was super creepy and really mysterious. I have to admit, I'm kinda sad that only 2 episodes left, but I'm really hyped about the finale (I really hope it's gonna be epic, just like every episode of the TV show). Gladly, it was a really funny episode, just like every other episode of the TV show, even though there aren't many jokes. The ending scene was definitely unexpected and kinda shocking.

Continues the slow decline
Escapist-280229 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode of Wednesday continues the slow decline that the show has been experiencing. The monster appears once again and continues his pursuit of Wednesday. At this point in the story, some key aspects of the storyline have not yet been resolved. It seems excessive to forgive him even just this once; I don't grasp why the character that Lucas plays keeps receiving screen time. Finding the monster not only added the right amount of tension to the situation, but it was also a deft and straightforward way to put off the investigation.

Despite this, the love triangle continues to be annoying, and it has only served to give them an odd and aggressive attitude. On the basis of their conversation in the last episode of the series, I get the impression that Enid was the only one who accepted Wednesday for who she really was.

Better than the previous one.
pauli_gomez1 February 2023
The previous episode has been a lower point, it seems. This episode was quite interesting again. There are a couple of plot holes (the photographs were too recent, no time for being developed, the house was empty too quickly) but in general it was good.

In this episode, Wednesday is at her peak of selfishness and it shows that she is not only an original spirit but a real jerk. I found that a little inconsistent. She had felt guilty about Eugene even when his attack was not her fault (she told him not to go alone) but the she makes the same mistake, but worse, with Tyler and Enid. And she also asked for Xavier help without reciprocating. And of course she did not acknowledged the good intentions of those who made her a party So, I am glad she hopefully does a little grow up in the close future.

Intriguing, yet so cheesy
liamgallaagher27 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The show is very intriguing - and I will say it has me hooked. With that said, there is a whole lot of corny acting and some bad writing. When Wednesday is stitching up Tyler and he says "Thanks Doc" I thought I might pass out from the level of cringe. Tyler, enid, the mayor's son, and even the mayor deliver some truly terrible lines in this episode.

Jenna Ortega does a great job, I think her performance is spot on and she plays the character perfectly. Apart from her performance and the intriguing/mysterious plot line, this show leaves a lot to be desired.

I don't know how long this show could last, and I do hope they clear things up in a somewhat satisfying way.

Great show and worth a rewatch
moviesfilmsreviewsinc6 December 2022
Episode 6 of Wednesday starts with Wednesday doing a ritual to summon Goody's spirit so she can help her master her powers. Her call to the dead is interrupted by Enid and someone throwing an anonymous letter under her door asking her to meet at Crackstone's crypt at midnight. Enid instincts on going along with Wednesday and it turns out to be a birthday surprise party for Wednesday. As they sing her happy birthday, she notices the writing on the old fireplace is the same as the writings burned on the school's lawn. She gets a vision and sees Goody warning her about Crackstone's impending visit. She asks Wednesday to seek a place in the vision and tells her that as a raven psychic she will have a solitary path which means she will end up alone unable to trust others. She also tells her they are running out of time. , Larissa visits the mayor and asks for his help tracking down the delinquents who left the burning message in her school. The mayor is happy to oblige and also tells her they are working on finding the person behind the recent attacks. He brings up the idea that it might be someone from her school and Larissa immediately warns him to stop entertaining such ideas. Back in school, Xavier tries to find out the vision Wednesday had in the crypt. Wednesday thinks he is the monster and refuses to divulge any information to her. He tells her that when she changes her mind and needs his help, she knows where to find him. On the other hand, Bianca spots Lucas doing his community work and he is wearing a bracelet from her mother's company. She tells him that the so-called self-help app is a fraud and tells him to delete the app. He asks her on a date later. They later meet up at the cafe and they seemingly get along well. The principal is also not happy to hear that Wednesday has been caught up with a new situation and decides to put the school on a full lockdown and revoke off-campus privileges until further notice. Ms Thornhill comes to Wednesday to comfort her and gives her the Frankenstein book to cheer her up. She warns her that if she continues to defy the principal she might be expelled.

The next morning, Wednesday calls Tyler and tells him that she has reconsidered his offer for a date. His dad hears the conversation and asks him to stay clear of Wednesday. She also tricks Enid to sneak out of the school and have a redo of her birthday party. They sneak out of the school and Tyler picks them up. It was only a matter of time before Enid got angry at Wednesday for her lacking social skills. She has every right to be angry with her as she tricked her and put her life in danger. Hopefully, they will resolve their issues soon but so far Wednesday has been an enjoyable watch, with plenty of mystery, twists and drama throughout.

Surprise.
bombersflyup28 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Quid Pro Woe continues on the show's meandering decline.

The monster appears and chases Wednesday once more, never attacking her. She uses people to no end, which they should know better by now, but it's missing her line of "finally," when Enid leaves. The flashback of the spiders in the pinata's frightening. It's the same if u go to capture a pregnant spider, out will fall like 50 babies scattering everywhere and yikes don't let them survive. The problem is these things are only in flashbacks and not the present, other than the opening episode with the piranhas. Not sure why this Lucas character keeps having scene time, being forgiven once is a stretch.

The weakest episode by far, ruined by Fred Armisen
jasonfitzgearld16 December 2022
This episode carries along the narrative quite well, but the inclusion of Fred Armisen just absolutely ruins the experience and atmosphere.

His consistently high pitched, over-acted voice pulls me out of the experience, and reminds me of a poorly thought out Saturday Night Live sketch. I'm honestly surprised they let Fred take on this role, it's just that bad. The constant "inside jokes", bad puns, and tongue-in-cheek dark comments create a much different vibe than the rest of the cast provides.

The entire episode I was waiting patiently for the moment he left the screen, and I could continue watching the show in relative peace.
