This beautifully done documentary weaves the story which links the tree known as Pau brasil (Paubrasilia echinata) and the bows of the best violins in the world. Luthiers have attempted to use other woods for violin bows, but they always come back to Pau brasil. Most luthiers and violinists agree Pau brasil allows them to extract the most beautiful and precise sound out of their violins.
Unfortunately, the species was exhaustively harvested since the discovery of Brazil in 1500 for the valuable red and purple dyes. Additionally, Pau brasil takes a long time to grow, and its seeds have a short period of germination capacity, so they don't easily propagate in nature.
Music and tree lovers will fall in love with this documentary, which unfortunately is hard to find.
