Warning: Spoilers
This episode was fine. Nothing mind-blowing but at least we had some answer, a touch of humor and, of course, Willow. That is why it is an improvement over the first episode. My main beef with the story is the character of Sorsha. In the movie she was quite stupid but it was understandable because she was young and had been rised by an evil all-powerful witch. She was a good fighter and a brave one but she followed evil and then she turned coats, mostly because she fell in love but also because she did not want to hurt a baby. But in this show it appears that all her decisions were wrong. She sent Madmartigan on a dangerous quest. She refused to have Elora trained. She banned magic! She hide her in a stupid way and did not even watch her enough. In the first chapter she insulted both of her children, disregarding their opinions. And then he send someone who has been corrupted to find Elora, because apparently all the years have not taught her how to spot evil magic.

Luckily I am beginning to like Jade, Boorman, Graydon and even Elora. I will need more time to warm to the princess, but that is fine. She is a brat and she should be. Let's hope next episodes are better.

Saved by Warwick Davis and the Welsh scenery

Willow attempts to teach Elora to use magic.

This is an okay episode with a solid performance from Davis.

The story slows down to focus on character development and spend time with the Nelwyn. This includes some useful backstory shown in flashbacks and plenty of screen time for Willow, in which Davis shines.

Character-focused episodes are often used to flesh out individuals and justify the air time allotted to certain episodes. For it to work the characters have to be either interesting, likeable, or, at least, entertaining. For me this is a hit and miss aspect of the show, along with the humour that for me, mostly misses the mark.

Certain aspects to the story work well. The filmmakers do a good job of developing a credible threat in the scenes involving the Gales. The final scene makes you want to find out what happens next.

As expected the visuals are excellent, with great use of the picturesque landscapes and plenty of good fantasy world spectacle.

The High Aldwin

When it finished, I said to myself that was a slog. It might had been 45 minutes long. The episode felt like a hour.

I had to remind myself that Willow was not a hit movie.

Here it is trying to channel a Lord of the Rings movie made for kids.

It has trite dialogue, not much comedy, a bloated cast and what seems like an interminably long banquet scene.

I ended up getting confused with the flashback scenes which is then mixed with scenes from the original film.

Maybe I thought Willow the series would be action packed.

Instead it is stuck about learning magic and Nelwyn culture. Another Disney show that has pacing issues and this one is crawling.
