A french "Darwin's Nightmare"
JackMougel15 August 2011
Olivier Weber have explored the backstage of Amazonia. "La Fièvre de l'or" ("Cursed for Gold" in English) is an excellent documentary, with beautiful images and amazing profiles. Traffickers, gold seekers, human traffickers, drug dealers are working hand in hand. And the gold is going to the banks of western world, at a high human cost. Amazonia, the biggest tropical forest in the world, is dying. We are in a new heart of darkness. The rush for gold is a new time bomb for the rain forest. As a result, a gold ingot cycle has developed—with its batch of insolvents, prostitutes, godfathers, traffickers, whether in French Guiana, Brazil or Suriname. This film is also a strong criticism of globalization. A french "Darwin's Nightmare". Johannes Buch
