Intriguing start

So far so good, interesting premise and setting. Love the 70s vibes. The characters are well cast and acting is pretty good. I'm certainly left wanting to know where this goes.

Best adaptation ever....plus incorporates the Dine actors, culture and language

Loved the first episode! Can't wait for the rest. Of course there will be inaccuracies. It is impossible to follow everything correctly (culturally or literally) when filming. One small example, they feature Monument Valley often. It is billions of miles from some of the locations featured (ex. Window Rock).

I read that a studio owned by Tesuque pueblo did the filming and i recognize a lot of the landscape from Espanola to Santa Fe.....haven driven by there growing up.

I am a volunteer for the Navajo Code Talkers for many years. I am happy to understand some of the Navajo language featured. It is an extremely difficult language. I've taken two semesters and still only know a handful of phrases. (Thus the why the Dine language was used in WW2).

Why it had to be filmed in the 1970's, when the book was written, seems unnecessary. Not much changes in the rez. Sad to say that many Navajos still have no running water or electricity and will not be able to view this show.

Love the inside jokes, (ex. University of AZ vs Berkeley). I am sure there are will be much more humor that will go over us stupid biligana's heads. The Navajos are a very funny and lovely people.

And now for something slightly different

A cop show with a nice gimmick: instead off spinning acronym hits like NCIS or CSI to smaller and smaller cities, why not a Native American-themed police procedural set in Navajo country with roles for an overlooked talent pool. Trust Robert Redford to deliver.

Had this been attempted way back when it would be starring Burt Reynolds or later on Lou Diamond Phillips, but nowadays we are fortunate to have the pendulum swing toward authenticity.

The on-location look is a big plus, while the authenticity stress means plenty of subtitles and no big names (or even recognizable tv faces) in the cast. Stoic Zahn McClarnon is okay in the lead role and had previous similar experience in the series "Longmire", which -no-surprise, had Lou Diamond Phillips prominent in the cast playing a character named Henry Standing Bear. The scripts don't shy away from addressing the theme or racism, but not in a heavy-handed way.

Chris Eyre is a genius

I genuinly missed Longmire after it ended and tried to live Yellowstone but didn't, i juat found all the rich people of very little diversity all fighting over land really dull after while...and then thank the lord, Dark Winds arrived...

It is not only beautifully written and directed, the cast is superb and clever and different, it feels other worldly. There is always a hint that there's other forces at work here that go beyond just human. But it's subtle they never over play their hand...

The lead actor, Zach is brilliant. I want every episode to be longer so i an just see him work things out...Chris Eyre is a director who shkd be making big movie but thank got he is making this.. Please can this series keep coming.....
