Well done to Chris Tarrant. He was smart enough to realise that this once huge TV show was going downhill, it had done every variation of the format there was to do, and that it was time to vacate the hot seat.
Don't underestimate this show - it was massive back in the day, and despite some scandals (cough cough) it still ranks as one of the best game shows the UK has produced.
It just got tired, we'd seen it all before, and Chris I think made the right choice to jump before the show was pushed.
Obviously ITV in their infinite wisdom decided the game was literally not up, only giving the format a four year rest before reheating it back up with Jeremy 'punch a producer' Clarkson in the hot seat.
I am still not convinced the show is any better than it was on its last legs here.
