Sex & Nudity

  • The film begins with a long, explicit TV blowjob scene in the foreground that the boy will then try to imitate with another boy.
  • A boy watches a porn video with full graphic display of blow job. He attempts to forcefully imitate the event with a younger boy. Nudity is implied but not shown.
  • Two boys have an attempted masturbation session, but they are too young. No revealing nudity.
  • A boy shreds most of his clothing and urinates on a wall radiator as a protest while in solitary confinement. No nudity shown.
  • Full rear nudity through a shower curtain as a boy is in the home of a chicken-hawk
  • All scenes are skillfully delivered with a reasonable degree of graphic realism but with the intent to educate and "keep it real"; rather than to shock.

Violence & Gore

  • Boy is brutally beaten by a teen and hospitalized. The make-up effects are quite chilling.
  • Numerous incidents of incarcerated boys throwing aggressive tantrums and having to be forcefully restrained by adults. A guard is bitten by a boy.
  • Numerous threats of violence from the young inmates directed towards each other and the guards/social workers.
  • Boy physically abuses himself in response to hearing the violence of other inmates upon each other. He hits himself in the head and bangs his head on furniture.
  • A boy has an adult kneel on his throat in response to a tantrum, choking the boy.
  • All scenes are skillfully delivered with a reasonable degree of graphic realism but with the intent to educate and "keep it real"; rather than to shock.

Profanity

  • The language of the incarcerated boys is exceedingly profane. But not really a departure from reality of such situations.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Adults are seen smoking and drinking. Drug use implied.
  • Boy is offered a challenge to finish off a bottle of alcohol in 20 minutes for $10. He drinks some but doesn't like the taste.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Most of the tantrum and confinement scenes in the boy's home are very intense.
  • A young boy is dangled upside down from an overpass by his intoxicated and mentally ill parent in response to his mild acting out.
  • A boy has a very difficult phone conversation with his mentally ill mother. The shock in his eyes as he tries to deal with this event is intense.
